Any ideas as to what it does?

Ummmm... it lets Mossberg charge more $$$ to people who buy a shotgun more for posting kewl int3rwebz pictures than for practical use?

???

Indeed.

I posted a similar thread about this mall ninja special a few days ago.

As you can see from the pictures, the muzzle break isn't that much longer than the regular 18 1/2 inch barrel.

The muzzle break isn't removable as per Mossberg, but there are 4 places where it is drilled for screws (?) and it looks like it might even be epoxied (?)

Jeff,

If you want to take it off, lossen the set screws and unscrew the jamnut at the back, once that is loose you should be able to unscrew the "thing"....

The collar looks like it was drilled for set screws, but it doesn't have screws in it. I don't know what they are for unless the holes are there for a wrench of some sort to lock into.

When I purchased the 18" barrel from Mossberg, I asked it the rolling thunder barrel could be purchased separately, or if the muzzle break could be removed. The CSR said 'no' without hesitation, so I imagine they want to continue to sell them complete until they run out. I doubt this model will last long, and I'll bet it will end up as a collectible. It would be interesting to know how many they made.

ON the subject of this Mossberg model 500a 12ga. I recently purchsed one and I love it. What that "THING" is on the end of the barrel. Well it is a muzzle brake / dicipator. It takes all the gasses produced by the fired round and basically forces them on a forward angle through the top and keeps the gun from having as much lifting recoil as it would with the use of the factory pistol grip, instead of the normal buttstock. Also it looks meaner than hell !

Imagine if someone came through your window in the middle of the night and had that pushed in their face :what: . They would probably load their pants. Fist you say it, then you do it.
Oh SH*T :cuss: !

So therefore it is not, I repeat IS NOT a door breacher, nor a potato gun, nor is it the ever popular BEER CAN LAUNCHER !

Anyone seen this yet?

Any ideas as to what it does?

Both the Rolling Blunder and Load Blocker have the same thing in common, no practical applications whatsoever outside of allowing Mall Ninjas, Posers and Wanna-be's the oppertunity to look like really bad men. Those of us that make use of firearms in our daily profession however know better and avoid the trinkets and gadgets associated with zombie fantasy land.

I think Mossberg is just capitalizing on the "tactical" bandwagon.
Having said that I have one of the door breacher style. Mossberg called the thing at the end of the barrel a "muzzle brake" but it has no real purpose. I got mine because I liked the matte black finish. Any video of police shooting out a lock, they don't hold it against the door, rather they stand two feet back. I believe, for the police, the purpose of the spikes at the end is to shove in a suspect's back.
I did a lot of research on muzzle brakes, and this ain't one.
