mossberg's lever action

Big 5 has these on sale the 464 30-30 lever actions for 399.99. ive been reading the reviews and all looks good . I was wondering if any one has had first hand experience with this gun and how it worked out. Just wanted to see what you guys thought about it before i bought it.

Walmart has their 336's for $349 and change. I have never seen a mossberg, well not in the last 40 years and even then I'm pretty sure it was made by marlin.

They are heavy, chunky and the ones I looked at had stocks that looked like stained pine. There are several million Winchesters and Marlins out there with real walnut stocks. Most can be found for less money than the Mossberg.

yea lots of older and better guns out there to be had I paid like 325 for a brand new in box marlin about a year ago

I have only handled a Mossberg in the store and it seemed heavy and a bit chunky. I would have like the lever to be just a bit larger too for gloved hands but I'm no expert with lever actions.

Exactly. These unproven upstart guns not on a par with the venerable Marlins, AND they cost more? I don't think so. Their fit & finish looks chinsy to me.
