Mossy 835 for bear?

Hi good folks,
I've got a Mossberg 835 that states "not for use with slugs". Would OO buck be okay for bear defense here in Washington State? Blackies run 150-250 pounds around these parts.

buckshot will be fine in that gun. Just think, 18 pellets of 00 buck from a 3 1/2 shell out of that 835. And that will be potent medicine on black bear. 2 3/4 shells with 00 buck will be fine too. Just used that 3 1/2 example for dramatic effect.

The reason it says not to used slugs is because it has a severely backbored barrel. I have heard of people shooting slugs out of them fine (might not be as accurate though)
