Most common ammo in US

Meh. Just keep what you have. In a true SHTR situation there’ll likely be someone else who.... can no longer use theirs and then you take what you need then.

In the past I watched at WM as the ammo dissapeared. The last on the shelf was 40 S&W so when things returned to normal i purchased a couple pistols in that caliber, dies, and bullets to go with the 5K fired brass that I had collected over the years. Now I have one more option in my bag of tricks if need be.

I am looking to ditch some of my guns in calibers I don't use any more. I want to replace them with more common and available (I know nothings available right now) calibers. I'm not thinking full prepper, but as ammo gets scarce what might I have an easier time finding at stores or in private hands?

I assume .22, .223/5.56, 9mm, and 12 gauge are some of the most plentiful ammo out there, but what about 30-30, 30-06, and .308. Out of those three, which one would you theoretically have the easiest time finding out in the wild? Any other common calibers I'm missing?

.308 I generally go with that although I'm hankering for 6.5 CM. I just have too much .308 to do that.

My take is that the popular cartridges are first to sell out, but more production is devoted to fast movers so they will be back quickly and volume will overrun at some point in the future. My recommendation would be 308.

This is true.

Manufacturers focus is to replenish supply for the highest demands.

There's all kind of 30-06 and .308 out there where I live. A whole lot more than any pistol calibers. Generally true of all rifle calibers at the moment, but we're not into gun hunting season yet here in Wisconsin.
