Hey --what a rip. I'm from Camden. I left that place in 1971 and moved to Colorado because well--uh--it was Camden.
Camden got ripped off though--they probably forgot to drag the river for a more accurate body count:D

Hey Murph. I grew up in Collingswood, right next door. Conservative, Blue-Collar Collingswood has become the Gay Capital of South Jersey, if you can believe that.

Ha, that's probably true. Not from Camden, but from the Philly burbs, PA side thankfully. Left the area in 2004 for Colorado and never looked back. I wouldn't even drive in Camden, NJ and the city of Chester in Delco, PA. In fact I always hated to cross the Delaware for any reason except had lot of sheeple relatives over there.

I love how Camden always blames their gun violence on the ease of getting guns in PA.

I thought that was Cape G*y, I mean Cape May. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Yea Mike --I used to hang out in Collingswood sometimes--Back in the 60's of course --before it got gay:D. My folks still live in Cinnaminson. I was back there about 10 years ago for a visit. I went to Camden just to check out my old stompin' grounds. Sure made Denver look good

Yes, I forgot about Cape May. But that's the shore, which I sometimes forget is also NJ. Collingswood has become very much like Cape May, minus the bars and the beach.

Actually, the infusion of gay-owned businesses is what turned around Collingswood's non-existant economy. It's become a little bit of a South Jersey tourist attraction. To be honest, if my next move was not going to be to a free state, I wouldn't mind moving back there.

Alas, I don't think Jersey will ever be on the list of safest, or free, states.

Hmmm. And here I sit typing at a computer in Flint, MI not 1/4 mile from where the picture was taken (if it is the same Walgreens and no trespassing sign I think it is), in a classroom full of students with P.O.s (I teach Alternative Education) in a "Gun-Free Zone". Maybe I should be more scared. I don't put much faith in those surveys. Then again it's all about keeping track of what's around you.

Does anyone know how they came up with those conclusions? I did not see what their ratings were. I know just using the numbers presented did not mean much without knowing how they are ranking them.

I'm pretty sure those numbers are where that city ranks relative to others in that particular crime. #1 would have the most of that crime, and on down the line. Notice how Detroit and Flint (overall numbers 1 and 3) are composed mostly of single digit numbers.

I swell with pride knowing that my humble home state of Michigan can put almost as many entries on a Top 15 list as the much larger and successful California. Heck, our two cities placed way higher than their three. In your face, Cali!

From Orlando here. Moved to the Tampa area for a semester and (unfortunately) I am moving back to Orlando in a couple months. BAck to the supposed tenth most dangerous city!

Having spent too much of the last three years in Philadelphia for my taste (despite the actually pretty good list of charms that Philly has!), and having worked in Camden for a semester at the public defender's office, I can only say ... objects in mirror will soon be smaller than they appear :)

Oakland (#4) got snubbed. Richmond (#9) is only 10 miles away. The two cities should be given joint credit and should be the undisputed champ as a unit.

We're still high in the rankings of most dangerous state. Though the rape statistics are somewhat deceptive, if you included violent accidental deaths we'd be about No. 1 in the nation overall. In my experience you are indeed much more likely to be assaulted by some drunk or shot at by a psycho than mugged. But that's what keeps us frosty!

No. 8: Alaska
Alaska is plagued with having the highest number of rape cases. There could be a correlation with alcohol abuse, also known to plague the state.

Rankings in Crime (out of 50)

Assault: 3
Burglary: 29
Murder: 22
Motor Vehicle Theft: 16
Rape: 1
Robbery: 31

Wow, New England is safer than I thought! 3 of the 5 NE states in the top 4 and all in the top 12!

No. 1 - New Hampshire
No. 2 - Maine
No. 4 - Vermont
No. 11 - Connecticut
No. 12 - Rhode Island

Hmmm , Maine has placed in the top 3 safest states for 15 years . Hard to believe such a heavily armed state with lax gun laws would rank that high

Silly me, I thought Massachusetts was in New England....

Funny how MA isn't on there at all. Guess the draconian gun laws here didn't make it nearly as safe as NH or Maine where gun ownership is nearly a requirement.

*sigh*

Alaska #8

What a bunch of BS, the only reason we have a high rape statistic is all the drunk natives that rape each other when their passed out, that and the fact that Ak has the smallest population per area of any state in the union.

Bout the only thing you have to worry about in AK is getting eaten by bears or the stuffing kicked out of you by a moose.....Just had to vent.....

I'm surprised Wisconsin is the 10th safest state. Try hanging around certin parts of Milwaukee after dark
