Responsible mothers should seriously consider arming themselves for the sake of their children.

Not all monsters live on Sesame Street.

That phrase crystallized itself this morning after seeing yet more headlines about kids being assaulted and/or killed.

Firearms can be very equalizing. Back in the time of clubs and swords, he, and I do mean he with the strongest muscles wins. Nowadays with firearms, a 115lb female and a 230lb man can be on the same level. Don't let yourself be unequal.

Very true, sir!
Good turn of phrase.

Thank you.

I am the mom around here and my Taurus 85 is on the to purchase list as the budget cycles around. Until then the Mark III is available if DH is not home.

Hell, she might have the upper hand. He's gonna be a larger target.

Great thread. My wife would protect our kids with the aggression of a threatened mother bear, but she is 5'2" and 120 lbs. No match for most BGs. CCW is crucial this day and age, but for now I am the only CCW permit holder in the family. My wife has great situational awareness, but we are working toward getting her CCW..

It took a little discussion and a fair amount of research to get me to decide on the CHL -- I needed to be assured that it would be possible to be safe with my intelligent small children all over me all day.

But whether a woman decides, after appropriate research, to carry daily or not to carry, I think that she should get some firearms training and figure out a means of keeping a home defense gun handy when she's alone with the kids.

This goes double for a woman in a one-car household because with the majority of homes having at least as many cars as they have drivers its usual for people who see an empty driveway to assume that no one is home (despite the big signs on the doors during the Christmas season that the UPS/FedEx/Post Office people should RING THE BELL because someone is probably home -- grrrr!).

So a woman at home with the kids with no car in the drive is at risk of having a burglar break in because he thought no one is there.
