Saw this article on Fox news. Probably wouldn't have happened if she'd been using a mouse gun! :neener::D

POTTER VALLEY, Calif. — A Mendocino County woman who was trying to kill mice in her trailer with a gun ended up shooting herself and another person.

The 43-year-old woman pulled out her .44-caliber Magnum revolver after she saw the mice scurrying across the floor of her trailer on Highway 20 in Potter Valley, sheriff's officials said.

But she accidentally dropped the gun, which went off as it struck the floor. The bullet went through the woman's kneecap, bounced off the keys sitting on the belt loop of a 42-year-old man in the trailer and grazed the man's groin before ending up in his coin pocket. :what:

Authorities did not release the shooting victims' names.

The mice escaped the shooting unharmed.

Wouldn't a gun in California have to pass that drop test, and NOT fire if let go from 5-3 feet? Or is "dropped" code for "fired wildly". Plus, 44 Mag in a trailer? Hello temporary hearing loss.

The press as always has delivered us inaccurate info.
    Here's the possibilities:
    1. The gun was damaged
    2. The gun didn't get dropped, someone did something really stupid and used that as an excuse

The "drop test" only applies to new guns sold in CA

You can't serve papers on a rat - you have to shoot 'em or let 'em be ;)

AHH. maybe the lady had to get the gun out of the ceiling. Very unlikely though. I know my guns re up fairly high, not loaded though.

Musta been wearing the wrong glasses

That can make you disoriented. The knee was the accident, she was trying to send the guy a message. I'm guessing her trailer isn't in the rent district.

I can't see anything wrong here... A .44 magnum revolver to kill mice in a trailer...? Is there some other way...?

Wow! Who would have thought that .44 magnum wasn't enough for a mouse?

    Drop test?

Right quick off the top of my head I can't think of a 44 mag revolver that doesn't have a tansfer bar or hammer block. There may be one out there but it wouldn't include a S&W, Dan Wesson, Colt, Ruger, etc.

    How big were the mice?

The story doesn't say what sort of substances the lady may have been ingesting. Those mice may have been the size of lions!

Wasn't Jim Jones from Potter Valley before moving to South America? Wonder if the lady and her friend were into the Mendo Gold or some other such wacky stuff?

I swear officer, the mouse was really big and threatened me......

A 44 mag for a mouse, good lord.

And I feel sorry for that man who just about came close to the reality of having nothing but memories in the shorts department.

Sound like your typical negligent gun owner that ends up giving us all a bad name. I mean really who pulls out a 44 mag for a mouse and then fires it in a trailer no less. wouldn't surprise me one bit if she got a little trigger happy and did this damage and said she dropped the gun so she wouldn't (a) sound like a idiot even though pulling a 44 mag for a mouse would suffice enough for me or (b) get any possible charges filed against her.
