I've been trying to figure out what the ultimate AR-15 is, and have noticed that the name MSTN has come up here & there. Unfortunately I have no clue about them, and when I checked their website, it looked like they just sold uppers & assorted parts. Could someone shed some light on why they are the ultimate, as opposed to say Noveske?

    Thanks.

    heh

there is no ultimate. MSTN, like noveske, has a reputation for not cutting corners. the price typically reflects that. that's all.

Anymore, I buy built uppers from either MSTN or Noveske because I am assured of quality and accuracy. I've built my share of uppers and while the MSTN option is more expensive, it's not my problem if it doesn't shoot or run-- and they do anyway. My 3Gun competition uppers are from MSTN and my training SBR is from Noveske. MSTN is more in tune with practical competition shooters, in my opinion, and there are more build options than what Novekse typically offers.

I interviewed one of the MSTN people for this article (besides knowing him for several years)

Do you think there is any quality disparity between MSTN & Noveske?

I ask because I'm trying to build the best Fighting AR along the lines of Tiger McKee's specifications, as laid out in GUN Magazines Combat Special Edition 2009, and just wanted to make sure that MSTN was the right company to build me this rifle.

Well, I think MSTN does more custom, and Noveske builds more of the same types of configurations. Contact Paul @ MSTN and chat with him about what you want to build.
