This is the bill that would allow the use of suppressors "in the field". Currently they are illegal outside of a rifle range, this bill would make them legal everywhere firearms are legal.

It has had a tough road and many folks, myself included, thought it was toast after it was tabled in the Senate Judiciary committee last month after passing the House with flying colors. I am happy to say it was yanked out of committee this morning. There are only a couple of days left in the current session.

Please contact your state senator and ask them to support this bill! There has been a misinformation campaign from the police officers association and the MT FWP that convinced several key senators to not vote in favor of this bill. That has been mostly rectified but it needs your support!

Well, it's been amended AGAIN and is up for a third reading today. We're running short of time... :(

It's about time. I know many older folks who don't hear so good or have ringing in their ears becuase of the hunting they did without hearing protection. I'm sure that this will help save the hearing of many folks. Yes, I know these same folks could wear electronic hearing but many won't.

And.. its dead:

HB 174 died when it failed to get the supermajority necessary in the House for the House to accept a late bill from the Senate to concur with Senate amendments to HB 174. However, we did get half a loaf in SB 124 which clarifies that the prohibition of possession of suppressors in the "field or forest" only applies "while hunting."

It is not a total loss though.

At least HB271 is kicking butt and headed for the Gov. Constitutional Carry, here we come! :)

All we need is the governor to either sign it or ignore it for 10 days. Woohoo! :D
