My absolute no go items on a hunting rifle.

Light primer strikes and two of them not feeding, passing over the round. But the light primer strike is why it got benched. Useless, and I can't ethically sell it.
I'm without words. If you throw up your hands and it's just evil you can cut it in three pieces with a chop saw and throw it away.

I’ve seen more than one Savage with functional and QC issues. They tend to be accurate but they are not the best, high quality rifles.

Its not an evil tailsman. I like the feel of it, and wanted something for bad weather that I didn't care about. Stainless. Maybe when I get real bored new spring and magazine lips. Been in the basement about 10 years, but I aint dead yet.

It is what they are known for.

When I went to sniper school, the standard issue rifle wasthe M24, which is a Remington 700 hot rod. The 700 doesn't have a bolt lock, which is not ideal given the rugged nature of movement for a sniper (crawling, walking, climbing through brush, riding in vehicles and aircraft, etc.) so what we did was girth hitch a heavy rubber band to the trigger guard, then stretch it over the ball on the tip of the bolt handle. This rubber band was easy to flick off the ball, or it could even be broken with a yank. I use this trick with both my 700 and my Ruger American when I'm hunting.

Fix it, or get it fixed, then sell it.
I opened up cleaned the firing pin. Then maybe another 50 shot started acting up. So I don't know if it will ever get sold. Maybe different spring. But it should not need a different spring. I like the feel of it. But just not that good of rifle to waste much time on. Acts up, so it can't be trusted. Needs differnet or djust magazine lips too.

The scope mount for the rear is cantilevered over the blind magazine. Making pain ass to load, and real hard to get a jamed one out.

Savage is just savage.

My wife killed her first deer, in the first hour, on the first day, of her first hunt, with the first shot, from her first rifle. A 1965, Winchester 94, 30-30 that she bought at the pawnshop for $100. Some people just need less.

So the last hour of the last day of my second year with the last shot in the magazine just is NOT as good. lol! It was -18 with 35-40 mph wind. 🥶
