I called my Congressman's and Senators' offices last week to urge them not to renew the AWB. I got a letter from my Congressman, Bart Gordon, a couple of days later in which he expressed his opposition to the ban.
But what struck me about the letter was the language used in reference to the ban. The first sentence reads:
"Thank you for contacting me about the expiration of the ban on certain semiautomatic weapons that resemble military assault weapons."
I was pleasantly surprised to see such accurate terminology from a member of Congress.
Ironically, Congressman Gordon, a Democrat, invariably responds when I contact his office. Neither of my Republican senators have ever done so.
