Lots of Appleseeds occurring all over the US on April 19th and 20th this year. Be sure to sign up for one near you!

All rifles welcome, and all riflemen!

Bring your Mosin, or your M14. Your Marlin 60 or your Winchester 94. Your AR, or your SKS.

But bring yourself and a mind like a sponge, because the knowledge to be soaked up comes at you full-force, like a fire hose.

I went this last weekend to an appleseed in Toccoa Georgia with my eleven year old son. All pun intended WE HAD A BLAST even with it being cold and rainy.

I can't really claim I improved that much but I learned a lot and it was fun. GO.

Hey Rocinate,
How about those Georgia Revolutionary War Reenactors.
Rifle marksmanship and living history. Lucky you!

I don't know about them but will definitely check them out. I already play dress up for cowboy action shooting.

I really wanted to go in April and take my 15 yr old (he's a shooter) but I didn't think that I would be able to come up with the cash for 800 rds. of ammo, entrance fees, lodging, food, transportation, accessories, etc.

Thanks to this thread I found out that Young Wheeler shoots free and we can use .22s for at least part of the shoot. What a bonus.

Big question, how much of a disadvantage will I be at with a single shot bolt action .22? Not that it matters a lot, but still I'd like to know.

Thanks fellas

I'm guessing you could purchase a new 10/22 and still come out ahead. Or you may be able to borrow one from somebody you know. I'm actually building an extra Liberty Training Rifle to have available to loan to those in your position.

The course is designed for semi-auto rifles, as there are some timed sections of the shooting.

However, the bulk of the instruction does not require a semi auto, and even those timed sections have been cleaned by bolt gun operators, so it is not that huge of a hurdle to leap.

That said, any aspect of the Appleseed course that is a shooter can not totally participate in, they will still have a learning experience and opportunity.

With the AQT targets that we use, 210 is a the minimum "score" for Rifleman (expert), out of the 250 possible. I witnessed a fella with a 238 on this AQT with a bolt 22, so very possible to do.

If the shooter goes into it with a teachable attitude, they can learn, even if for less than 5% of the course, they may not get all of their shots off.

Groups, it is all about shot groups, they can demonstrate good technique and groups, even if they only get 6-8 shots off, in a 10 shot string.

Appleseeds are not a competition, except with one's own performance.

See the attachments to my earlier post, Post #14, for Ruger 10/22 LTR information, may be a good option.

Enjoy!

I want to do this so bad, and There is another one here in CA soon. It always seems that my schedule gets hosed up and once again, I have a dinner to attend the first Saturday they shoot. ARGGGG!!!

If I had to leave an hour or two early the first day, would it really screw me up?

Nah, you would catch a bulk of the instruction by @ 3pm or so. Especially if you can make Sunday too, you would really reap a good bit of the full course.

Most of the "magic" is taught on Saturday, and often the last couple of hours can be spent refining, if the course/class is going well.

Each Appleseed is a little different, and develops it's own personality ;)

I would not miss it for lack of only a couple of hours, but be warned, Dinner may not be that important, once you get there ;)

Some things are just meant to be...... A cousin has a recreational cabin not too far from the shoot this weekend. It's spring break and we haven't done anything familywise yet so my wife and daughter want to go..cousin donated enough ammo for my sons full bore....Now I just have to practice my "tactical" reload with my old single shot .22......I can't wait...
