My first attempt at beagling

I have never understood how expanding the mold-face separation
distance -- in one direction -- doesn't result in an oval shaped bullet.
I don't know how either. But I got round .311 bullets out of it. Before sizing, the calipers were only showing .0005 out of round. But that's outside of my caliper's measuring ability.

Believe it or not, I believe "squish" was the correct operative term -- and reqm't.
A beagled bullet -- unsized -- is a slightly larger oval in one direction
Running it through a round sizing die....then "squishes" that larger bullet circular.

FWIW; I have opened up aluminum molds .003"-.004" with a lap and fine lapping compound. Haven't tried any more than that and it's a permanent solution...

Casting bullets opens up a whole new world of guns/reloading/shooting. I got to learn a whole lot more about my guns and how to make accurate, clean shooting, non-leading bullets. I went as far as mixing my own bullet alloys and making my own bullet lube. I really enjoy casting my own (I got so involved I didn't reload a jacketed bullet for maybe 30 years)...

When I modify a mold I get it up to casting temp then pour 2 with the sprue out of the way and as soon as I pour I insert a screw into the lead before it sets. Once the bullet is solid I remove it marking it so I know which cavity it came from.

Next you coat the bullet with valve grinding compound or similar then put it in the appropriate cavity and close the mold. Spin it a few times with a slow speed drill, repeat on the other cavity(ies), clean the mold, then cast a few and see if you need to do more.

How long is a few times? Like one second on low?
