So today I picked up a Smith and Wesson 66 for 300 bucks with aftermarket grips and original box. It is my first Smith and Wesson revolver and I love it so far.I beilive I got a good deal on it. All I need now is the thumb latch and screw which I ordered today.I put the original grips back on. I love the classic look. Just wanted to share.

I have that same revolver and I love it. I was worried about the short barrel but it hasn't effected my shooting at all. Mine came with an Uncle Mike's boot for a grip, it hurt to fire .38 Spl. I have a set of Hogues for it but prefer the S&W grips like yours.

To be honest, I owned 2 S&W revolvers before it. One was a 28-2 with 6" barrel, the second was a 19-4 with 6" barrel. The 19 was so bad I swore I'd never own another S&W. I lasted 20 years until I bought the 66 and now I think they're great. Mine has had an action job making it even better.

I was about to purchase that very same model this week Jermz1987. I passed on a model 66-2 this week because the price was 400+ for a mediocre specimin. What 66- model is that one? 300$ is a great price no matter what. Is it missing the cylinder release latch though?

A local dealer had the twin to your gun (with a cylinder release however) for $450.00. When he wouldn't budge on the price I decided to walk.

It is a 66-3. I ordered the thumb latch and screw piece for 25 bucks. I was told it is a simple fix. Yeah he originaly wanted 400 for it but I got him down to 300.
Great buy! I am jealous. They are much more expensive down in FL. Opps im sorry I missed the part on your original post about ordering the thumb latch and screw. I was distracted by the pictures, but cant blame me for that hahaha

$325 bucks for that gun is a serious deal. Great find!

From what I've seen, $450 for a 2.5" S&W 66 is pretty reasonable these days. They've dramatically increased in price in the past 2 years. 2 1/2 years ago I could have purchased a 2.5" 66-1 for $350. Same gun these day's easily tops $500 from what I've seen.

What in the world was wrong with your Model 19?? I have a Model 19-2 that I have had since 1971. It has been the best revolver you could ask for. I'll never get rid of it and am going to will it to my youngest brother when I die.
