So a friend of mine was walking a girl home in a shady part of town and on his way back someone approached him and demanded his wallet... he grabbed the guys arm and was about to beat his ass (he's a powerlifter) when the guy put a gun to his head and told him to let go. Needless to say he surrendered his wallet, and followed the assailant's commands to walk away without turning around.

I'm just confused at the whole situation... It's illegal for felons to own weapons, and illegal for civilians (in this state) to carry them outside of their home or car. I mean, maybe the mugger was an off duty cop? That has to be it... or maybe he had a non-resident CCW license from another state and he forgot that it's illegal to carry in Illinois... :banghead:

It would have been sweet if my friend had a knife and stabbed the guy in the neck.

Is he of age to carry? This presents a great opportunity to educate and get another freeman aware of excercising their right to protect themselves.

PS...obviously he wasnt about to "beat his ass" if the BG was able to draw and subsequently "put a gun to his head"

He is of age, but we live in King Daley's Illinois which means that lowly peasants aren't allowed to protect themselves like the royalty are.

I thought the antis said carrying a gun was a bad idea because the bad guy will just take it away from you and shoot you?

Did your friend try that?

Maybe considering that, its best that only the criminals carry.

My bad, I missed that you're in "East Germany" :) Hmmm...he could go old school with some brass knucks since he's a big dude and probably has some weight to toss around. Actually, better yet...Taser International's new personal taser. I can tell you firsthand that getting tased it NO fun...but would be fun to administer :) MSRP is about $350 I think and reusible...even has a uber cool tactical red dot laser aiming device and discreet hip holster. no thigh holster available at time of posting

I'm sorry to hear about your friend's misfortune by the way.

Even more sorry to know that having a gun put to his head and his wallet stolen is what your local politicians consider "winning" the fight.

Gun control is like fighting drunk driving by making it harder for sober people to buy cars.---------Senior Member Armueller2001

This is unfortunate, and I'm saddenned at your friend's misfortune. I hope something good comes of it.

(love your signature!):) Can I use it?

Being a power lifter and being 'about to beat his ass' didn't do much good. Too bad he didn't have better self defense training or have a clue to look for the other hand. In short, he got the upper hand and squandered it away without follow through, false bravado aside.

There is a reason it is called a "shady part of town"

Should any of us consider that everything ended well?

Don't get me wrong, I think CCW is great, important, our right, etc., but let's look at three possible outcomes:

You get mugged and
1) the guy shoots you and shoots (or worse) your girl.

2) you kill the guy, and now you've entered the legal system, both criminal and civil (everyone has a mother, and she will show up at your trial and say what a wonderful, if misunderstood, boy she had. She'll probably bring his pastor, too.)

3) You're out a few bucks, and now you'll remember to STAY OUT OF SHADY PARTS OF TOWN!!!!!

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner!

Sorry about your Bud. Glad, and surpised, he wasn't shot in the back. Shame he wasn't a (high-level) martial artist; disarm BG, dump ammo, and stick gun where BG doesn't want to pull trigger!

Stay safe, and out of IL!

Bob

Tasers are garbage; had your friend used one on a BG, there would be little tags all over the crime scene with the serial number of the cartridge that was fired. Taser calls it AFID. The police would include that "forensic" information in the report, bad guy gets a copy of that report and all of this would come back to the guy trying to defend himself.

Answer 7.

The TASER C2 is shipped out inactive and you will need to pass an identification verifcation a felony background check to get the activation code. TASER International has taken on the task of screening the purchasers to make sure convicted felons can't activate a TASER C2. You can do this over the internet or if you don't have a computer, you can do it over the phone and a trained operator will give you the code that is unique to your TASER C2 to unlock it. Once the TASER C2 is unlocked, you will never need to do it again but there is a $9.95 activation fee that is good for up to ten units.

8. What are AFID tags?

Answer 8.

AFID stands for Anti-Felon IDentification tags. Each cartridge contains 20-30 of small, confetti-like tags that have the serial number of the TASER cartridge imprinted on them. If a TASER device is misused, the police will find these tags and can use them to identify the owner of the TASER device that was used.

You suppose you could dab some curare on the tips of those barbs?

You suppose you need to carry a vacuum cleaner or brush and dustpan with you?

Ah wonderful I leave for Illinois in one week, you guys aren't givin me a warm and fuzzy.... at Scott AFB and the surrounding area seems nice.

About all this taser talk, its irrelevant, we can't have them in IL either.

at Scott AFB and the surrounding area seems nice.
There are some dumpy and rough areas in belleville and other places closer to the river but for the most part southern illinois is pretty safe.

Was your friend walking in the University area? Otherwise, why was he walking in a known bad area?

So where did you EVER get the idea that ANY criminal would obey ANY law. Sure, it is against the law for a criminal to have a gun but that's what criminals do: THEY VIOLATE THE LAWS. Living in the Peoples' Republik of Illinois is a pain in the rear. Even if a guy is 100% legal in shooting a dirtbag, he'll still have legal problems. Until we take the whole state away from those corrupt Chicago politicians, we're going to have problems. I wish that the FEDS would step in and nail Daley and the corrupt Chicago Democrat Political Machine to some planks and crucify them. I don't know why the FEDS don't do their job. They know that Daley is crooked. They nail everybody all around him but they don't get him for SOME reason... I tell you, the federal government has been the BIGGEST disappointment for years. Especially the federal law enforcement personnel! They can nail Martha Stewart on all sorts of goofy money charges but they CAN'T nail Daley???? Give me a break. Oh, boy! I felt a LOT safer with Martha Stewart locked away instead of Daley sitting in prison. Daley, to downstate people, is exactly the same as an organized crime boss out of the Mafia. The only difference is that the Mafia bosses are nicer and more honest....

Thank God we have Stand Your Ground and Castle Doctrine where I live - it keeps these sumbags' parents outta my pockets.

I don't go along with just giving up everything, we have had scumbags shoot people after they hand over the cash - are they winners????

Not to take away from your friends situation, but I always considered mugging to include some sort of physical violence. I realize a gun in the face is extremely threatening, but if there was no battery involved, I'd call it a robbery and not a mugging....crappy situation either way though :(

A gun in the face is extremely threatening.

mugging - assault with intent to rob
assault - a threatened or attempted physical attack by someone who appears to be able to cause bodily harm if not stopped

robbery - Noun (pl -beries)
1. Criminal law the stealing of property from a person by using or threatening to use force
2. the act or an instance of robbing

Seems like he was mugged and then robbed.
