well i picked up the gen4 g23 a few months ago and have put about 1,100 rounds through it so far of various jhp's and fmj including speer lawman, federal champion, federal hst, winchester ranger, gold dots, etc... I even tried it a tac light attached attached.
the only probs i had were extremely erratic ejection, and 3 fte's due to an out of spec extractor. i bought a glock oem extractor at a local shop for $10, put it in, and it completely resolved those two issues. 550 rounds since the extractor change. i had to do the same thing for my gen3 g19 i bought almost two years ago. why glock's been putting out out of spec extractors for this long is truly a mystery. todd greene experience the exact same issue with his gen4 g17. a new extractor solved all his probs too.
the trigger pull was of course gritty and heavy (over 6.5lbs out the box). so, i put in the smoothface 000357 trigger bar assembly (smoothface without the bump, has curved trigger spring engagement).
i called glock, and the tech said there would be no robs with the gen3 trigger bar, but "glock recommends gen4 parts for the gen4 guns". nice scripted response lol.
the new grip texture is an improvement, although not like night&day. i no longer find myself re adjusting my grip every few shots.
i can take or leave the humungous mag release. to be honest, rather like the old style.
the new matte grey parkerized type slide finish is indeed more grippy than the old glossy black one.
it shot tight groups, as accurate as my gen3 g19. i also noticed that i can put the gen3 g19 gills slide assembly on the gen4 frame and it seams to work perfectly. of course you cannot put the gen 4 slide assembly on the gen 3 frame due to the wider diameter recoil assembly. i did not fire it like this, just tried it at home after the range.
the slide cycles much smoother than any gen3 i've owned, and the short grip felt great in my small hands.
