Knowing all the lore and scuttlebutt, I know I'm now doomed to disaster, calamity, and malady.
Or, maybe not, according to Matt Larousier:

Every so often, I'll look around to see if one is available. And the Rock Island, IL, On-Time Auction did have one.

From the auction:
Description:
Manufactured in 1993
Note: This item features a high-capacity magazine which has a capacity above 10 rounds and cannot be sold or transferred to residents in states where handgun magazine capacity is limited to no more than 10 rounds. Please check your local laws and regulations prior to bidding.
Rating Definition:
Excellent overall with original finish, handling marks, and crisp grip checkering. Mechanically excellent.
So, I put some cash on it, and won last night about 1647 local. All of US$425 at the gavel, with the buyer premium, then S/H/I, all of $620.96. And, I'll owe my LGS twenty for the transfer (and for a rug, like as not).
(In a more perfect world, they could have shipped to Bedford, and I could have picked it up in-person, but, I'll live in the imperfect world.)
There will be photos when I get the thing.
And, conveniently, there's a Gun show in FW on Saturday, so that will start the magazine search off.
Kind of nice to win one, given the high dollar items I was low-balling on.

We had a polymer version at the gun shop where I worked many years ago. It never sold so we added it to the shooting gun pile. I took it to the desert a few times to shoot and it generally worked. It is a very interesting design and a cool gun for sure! We ended up selling it to a Colt collector for more dollars used, then we were asking for it new.

I can't wait to hear about your experience once the gun arrives. It has been a while since I thought about the All American 2000.

COOL GUN!

I've seen a few at the LGS over the years. Interesting pistols, but the store wanted more than I wanted to give for a novelty.
Same with the Colt Double Eagles I have run across. I wouldn't mind owning one, just too tight to give the asking price for a gun with a bad reputation for reliability.

The All American and the Double Eagle are what I refer to as amateur collectibles. They aren’t really rare and they certainly aren’t any good. Colt built a lot of crap over the years.

Honestly, Colt built very few great guns over the years. Most were average, with many well below that. However, the name resonates to people who just don’t know any better.

I remember when the 2000 came out... I had that issue of Guns & Ammo. Interesting pistol, for sure, sort of 'Euro-looking' it always seemed to me. I wasn't even aware they had a poly-framed version of it!

The legend was that they were running behind on sinking the mold for the plastic receiver and machined some out of aluminum to get the gun to market on time.

The only one I ever handled was an aluminum gun with very nice blued and black anodized finish. And the "trigger on a cart" was as smooth and light as you could ask for at the time. Pity I didn't get to shoot it.

The Double Eagle wasn't all bad. A friend had one with DA start equal to Sig or Beretta and was reliable and accurate. Pity it was the OACP length.

I remember when Colt dumped those on the market, and the new All American I examined at the local gun store was very reasonably priced. It is my recollection the locking system was interesting, but then I pulled the trigger and it was not crisp like a 1911, and I walked away.

The All American was simply too ahead of its time, now the things are collectables.

Yeah the metal frame was just the first year. That’s the one I had.

I had one a while. It wasn’t too good either. So much so, that Colt turned to CZ to design their next DA/SA auto.

Eh, they have gone up slightly with inflation. Not sure there’s much demand, so not really collectible.

I am kind of surprised, because Colt collectors pay big bucks for relative garbage

And didn't that work out for them. I saw one ever in person.
What a coinkydinky CZ now owns Colt. They could reintroduce the Z40.
No it didn’t, but having owned both, the Colt Z40 was a heck of a lot better than a Double Eagle.

The gun itself wasn’t the problem.

I can recall a Gander store having a bunch of these for $449 or so, blew em out for $399. Got to thinking I paid $550 for a P7 PSP around the same time. Luckily I made the right decision. 😁

I handled a used one in my LGS over a decade back (that store is gone now.)

Best trigger ever --- NOT! Not quite as bad as the H&K VP70, but in the same ballpark. I prefer the trigger on my staple gun.

Great collectible, though, showing what happens when liability lawyers are invited to contribute to gun design, metaphorically- speaking.

Only gun I ever won; Friends of the NRA dinner, IIRC. Owned it exactly long enough to swap it on something else.
This was long ago, and I didn't have a safe full of other things. Wouldn't mind having one, just for grits and shins. There are some other things in there that I don't take seriously. ;)
