20170721_192547.jpg Been shooting groundhogs with my airguns in a semi suburban area for several years now. I have a few that have been skiddish and hanging out past my current airgun set ups. I decided to make it a bit easier :) besides my other guns were getting jealous
I like this lil gun. The stock is inlet for a bull barrel but works fine with the stock light barrel. I bought the stock cheap from another forum member knowing it was not made for it.
Anyhow from the porch under a tree to 90 yards out one shot hornady 17hm2

I live in suburb of Nash. Tn. My wife asked what the new critter was under the bird feeder today. Nice size groundhog. My neighbor said he'd seen one just yesterday. This was first time for me. I wanted the .22 but the close neighbors would flip out! Then I thought...upstairs bathroom window and my bow...quiet! Probably just watch him...
You made a good shot. 90 yds...small kill zone. good stuff!

well if yas have a .22 rifle that can shoot cblongs- or the cci "Quiet" you would be surprised how quiet and effective they can be to 30 yards or so.... depending on the actual legality of discharging a gun in your area... some of the newer high pressure air rifles shoot REALLY quiet from the factory and my Benjamin Marauder in .22 is very quiet and has harvested over 80 groundhogs in areas where neighbors thoughts were/are a concern. One needs to use common sense and have "backstops" and know your ranges etc...

Congrats...... That's a nice looking 'lil 'chuck rig. I'm a fan of those stocks and have seriously considered getting a 17hm2 on several occasions. My rimfire woodchuck tools are all 22 LR so I'm a bit more limited on range. Head shots on woodchucks work OK with a 22LR out to about 50-60 yds. and beyond that it's time to pull something else out of the safe. What type of airgun have you used previously?........... ETA..... You just answered my question as I was typing it..... I've got a Benjamin Trail 22 cal. that's never harvested anything bigger than a squirrel. How close did you have to be to take a groundhog cleanly? I'd consider it but I'm pretty new to airguns so I wanna make sure I'm using enough gun.

With my marauder .22 I routinely make clean harvests from 20-60 yards I have an air force condor in .25 that I got one clean at 75 yards... I have lost fewer animals with the pellet guns than a .22 rimfire... I think it is because the pellet dumps all the energy into the animal and does not pass through but I am not sure really. The lil rimfire 17's out to 150 are real effective for me. The newer pcp pellet guns are pretty darn nice :)
