Sitting in the gun safe right next to my Garand is this FN49 Columbian.

The previous owner had done a butcher job on the front sight. He had hacksawed off the ears on either side of the sight blade and installed some abomination of a front sight.
The biggest problem with that is that the sight is part of the gas tube, so I had to search out a a new one and replace it, but it is back as it should be now. Well, all accept for the recoil pad that the same previous owner had also installed. One of these days, I hope to find the original style steel butt plate and finish this classics restoration, but for now she is ready to be test fired!

I've always wanted one of those in 308.

That would be very cool!

The thing about this one is that while there were a lot of FN49's built and distributed, there were less than 1000 of the Columbian contract models. This one has a serial number of 0076.

I guess if it's a Colombian model it's in .30-06?

Nice gun, let us know how it shoots.

Yes, 30-06.

Im not sure when I will get to shoot it. I am once again on my way out of town for work.
Maybe in a couple of weeks I'll take it and the Garand out. Do a side by side comparison. That ought to be fun!

How 'bout that?....
I didn't even know that was a *thing*.

I'll have to look more closely when I pass one now.

Todd.
