My man purse

What no TOILET PAPER? Being able to wipe our butts after we poop is one of the things that seperates us from the animals. Having socks after we poop makes life more civilized.

A water bottle is pretty handy as well.

Optical, rather than spend the bucks on a vacuum sealer, wouldnt sturdy Zip Lock bags with all the air pressed out work just as well. When I carry an assortment of stuff in my manpurse (much smaller than yours)I use the zip locks.

Don't forget the aluminum foil so Big Daddy can't steal your thoughts.:neener:

You don't know how funny you are. You made me laugh on this rather dismal rainy day in California. You were joking...right???:what:

A suggestion for you...

Replace the Glock 27 on your ankle with a P2000 of the same calibre as your HK USPc. I assume you like the .40 round. Or perhaps replace the HK with a Glock 22. (I would do the reverse as I am like HKs more than Glock.) The reason I suggest this is the mag interchangeablility is a feature that I would not over look. Its nice to be able to carry more mags and know they are compatible. Just my $0.02

Otherwise you have a great setup. Here is a Glocktalk thread about the
HK P2000sk size versus the Glock 27 size.

http://www.glocktalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=475245

And another for the HK USPc versus the Glock 19.

The little Nemo is a terry cloth towel. It is a a super compressed little towel I bought at the disney store. Then a few days later I found them at dollar tree with funky stuff on them. I have found it is very nice to have a terry cloth towel, and then a useful MSR Pack Towel. The Pack Towel is wild, it dries very quickly.

And yes, if it was up to me, I'd carry two .45 HKs...I'd love a P2000sk.

I used to carry a Keltec P32 in the bag, but sold it. So now I may switch to a Keltec P3AT. Its cool to have a "backup" type weapon to know that its there.

And yes, I often ponder at what point should I switch between the Fatboy Jumbo and a pack pack from them. I haven't decided which I'd get. I actually am planning on getting a larger pack, such as the Typhoon or Monsoon. I also plan on getting a Vulture or a Condor for more of a B.O.B. application.

I'll have to weigh it tomorrow...

Oh, and everything fits in the right pack, the larger Maxpedition Fatboy Jumbo.

Not a BOB---but for short trips on the MC---250 miles or less---a cell phone and a credit card----and my SP101 under the seat.

'man-purse' What a horrible term to use. Even if I carried some kind of bag with me everyday, it would be a cold day in hell before I used the phrase man-purse...

Re: Bug-out--

I'm not sure I would ever bug out. Seriously, I have been thinking about this lately Where the heck would I go?! Would I even get there? No, I'm more inclined to fortify the home-front and rough it through right here.

Your "pack" looks fairly comprehensive. Dried goods perhaps. How I came to have what resembles a "bug-out" kit was more for the sake of safely and securely stowing my hunting, fishing, hiking, etc. gear. But more important, to have said same very readily available when packing to travel. I can pack for a hunting/fishing trip in less than 5 minutes. I just grab my plastic storage boxes, my military steel ammo cans (with loaded magazines) and my firearms.

But, Re: actually bugging out, I'm not convinced. Seems we're safest where we know people. I don't know--have "preacherman" look your list over. He has the absolute most comprehensive plan I have ever imagined! It is incredible! He's quick about answering too.

What your kit more resembles for my purposes is a comprehensive kit for hiking or hunting. In that regard--wow!

Great forethought--congrats!

Those of us comfortable with our manhood are OK with the term man-purse. Man purse, murse, European Carry All, ATAS tool box, it doesn't really matter. Calling it something else doesn't change what it is.

OS, I know you've got Tuna and what not, but overlooking Jerky is a serious issue... :)

Its EUROPEAN!!!!

Call it what you want, but its still a purse.

Anyone know when the use of a purse became a female-exclusive occupation? I remember some historical contexts which make mention of many carrying purses without any implication that it was a deviation from the normal.

Source: "read it somewhere" -- take with salt as appropriate I suspect that it happened around the late 18th / early 19th century. You'll see late-1700s references to cutting a man's purse (meaning money bag on the belt), but by the 1830s it's "stealing his wallet". This coincides roughly with the spread of pants with pockets.

Dude! WHY? Going camping? Way too much for day-to-day carry. Unless there's something notable about your daily activity, put all that in a lightweight backpack, add small tent & blanket, and leave it in your car as a bug-out-bag.

My, er, everywhere bag includes:
- Computer (ultraportable, primary reason/excuse for the bag)
- Assorted computer cables
- Mini DVD-RW, CD-R
- iPod Shuffle (doubles as USB memory stick)
- Water filtration bottle
- ASP baton
- Knife
- A few bandages
- Roll of medical tape
- LED flashlight
- Lightstick
- Monocular (ranging "golf" type)
- Camera (tiny digital still/video; includes CF card)
- Bandana
- Waterproof matches
- Pens
- Small notepad (PostIt pad would be better)
- Tiny compass

What else is really needed? maybe a cheap poncho, space blanket, micro FM radio & couple meal bars. Unless you're frequently away from someplace to stash a BOB (car, truck, home, office) or other supplies, you'll almost always be within a minute of nearly everything you could need. The "manpurse" or briefcase should carry those absolute bare essentials for survival, yet have so little that weight & volume never get in the way.

'course that's just my take on it. If you're OK with hauling that much stuff around all the time, enjoy - at least you'll have everything handy.

ATTENTION!

This is the FBI. We have been monitoring this thread. Please smile into your computer screen for three seconds. Thank you.

Too much redundency.

Sanitation:
Purell Hand Sanitizer
Johnson & Johnson Baby Body Wash
Currel Lotion
3 x Moist Towelletes

Why not just carry a sealed set of sanitizing hand wipes?

Booklets / Writing:
Pocket North American Road Atlas
Medical Emergencies
"Rite in the Rain" weatherproof notepad
Mini yellow highlighter
Sharpe mini black

Why the whole of north america? Cut out the area you'll be in and leave it at that. I do and don't get the highlighter.

Personal:
Rockport Nail Clipper and Tweezer Kit
Oral B Satin Dental Floss
Folding Toothbrush
Colgate Toothpaste 0.7oz
Tampax pearl tampon
Terry Cloth Towel
MSR Pack Towel
Scope Mouthwash

Mouthwash? tampax? Why 2 towels?

Food Items:
Titanium Spork
Super Spork
Collapsable Cup
2 x condiment packet (salt,pepper,P-38 can opener, moist towellete, paper towel)
Water purifier tablets
Water neutralizer tablets
Waterproof case of splenda (approximately 0.56 ounces)
2 x Slim Jim
Starkist 3oz Albacore Tuna packet
SweetSue 3oz Chicken packet
honey
2 x cliff bars

Cup good, but pass on collapsable. A good ti cup that you can pack all this in is better. 2 sporks? the only worthwhile water tabs are the Katadyn Micropures. What are water neutralizer tablets? I'd go to straight cliff bars and tuna adn forget everything else

Flashlights:
Surefire L2
Surefire Spares Carrier - 6 CR123s
CMG Infinity Ultra-G
Maglight AA with 3-LED head
2 x generic LED microlights
Dorcy AAA led light

Too many flashlights. Bright and LED is all I'd carry. I'd try to carry the LED as a headlamp

Data:
256mb SD card
128mb CF card
256mb USB drive

Knives / Tools:
Leatherman Juice XE6
Benchmade Rescue Hook
Al Mar Havana Clipper
Benchmade Model 42 Balisong
Ti-Spanner for Strider knives

Bubb, I'm a knife junkie and I don't carry that much steel. Pick a tool and a small fixed blade and quit carrying the ballast.

fire:
Windmill delta butane lighter
2 x Coleman waterproof matches 40 each
Bic Mini Lighter
Magnesium Fire starter
medicine bottle full of lint

survival:
Poncho
emergency blanket
Cutters Advance sport bug spray
Suunto Compass
Emergency mirror
3 x Tide Gel laundry packets
Sewing Kit
Slip2000 Lubricant

I'd pass on the slip and the laundry

medical:
CPR microshield
5 x Icy Hot patch
Vicks Vapor Inhaler
New Skin Liquid Bandade
Blood clotting stick
After Bite anti itch pen
Rolaid Soft chews
Velket Tourniquet
QR Stop Bleeding applicator
Splinter Remover Kit

2 pair Nitrile gloves
4 x povidine iodine swabs
4 x sting bite swabs
4 x ammonia inhalents
about 24 misc. bandages
3 x triple antibiotic ointment packets
2 x blistex packets
4 x anti-itch packets
2 x trojan non-lubricated condoms (business)
2 x trojan lubricated condoms (pleasure)

far too much repetition in the med kit. 5 Icey Hot patches? You've already got spenter romoval covered with your tweezers. I wouldn't carry ammonia inhalents. You seem to be very worried about itching. Far too many bandages. Why so many different blood clotting tools? It reads like a scout leader's med kit (except for the condoms. well, maybe :scrutiny: If you're hauln' ass I can't imagine having time to get any

defense:
ASP Zip Cuffs
ASP OC kubaton
Handcuff Key
HK USPc magazine loaded with Ranger SXT (.45)
Glock 27 magazine loaded with Ranger SXT (.40)

cuffs??? for what? why the 2 different mags?

misc.
SWAT challenge coin
Tornado 2000 Whistle
LaRue Tactical Bottle Opener tool
Playing Cards
NCStar Monocular

Dextromethorphan 20mg (cough suppresant)
Pseudoephedrine 60mg (nasal decongestant)

back to too much variety. Pick something and stay with it. I'm too tired to go on! More thought, less buying and carrying.

Digestive:

Alka-Seltzer (antacid & pain relief)
Asprin 325mg
Citric Acid 1000mg

Caffeine 60mg
Pyilamine Maleate 15mg
8 pills

Childrens:

Chewable Aspirin 81mg
10 pills

Triaminic Thin Strips
10 strips

Just because it's a man purse doesn't mean you HAVE to carry tampons and Midol...

And why are you carrying tampons and midol? Are you expecting to turn hermaphroditic anytime soon?

Tampons and panty shields are very effective at controlling bleeding.
I have some of the later in my first aid kit.

Midol... well I can tell you that it has 500mg of acetaminophen for pain relief, and some caffeine... maybe you could take them to stay awake? haha

This is coming from a guy who doesn't have a man purse, but I think you carry far more stuff than I would.

For example I question the necessity of things like:
3 x Tide Gel laundry packets
Scope Mouthwash
Waterproof case of splenda
3 different varieties of flash media
SWAT challenge coin

Ymmv and all that but it sounds like you're trying to be the 7-11 more than I would want to be.

Most or all of those meds an be replaced by a bottle of ibuprofen (or tylonal personal choice) and some non drrowsy 12 hour cold and cough meds.

I don't think even my mother has that much varity in her med cabnet. In my med box in my dorm, I keep some bandages, pain meds, cold meds, and some icey hot pads. Thats it, I can maybe see some blood cloting stuff but not much more.

Also maybe a air brace for a possible sprained ankle.

duct tape is a good idea.

more slim jims, done.

jerky? Great idea, duh!

why the different meds? Well, I'm not just thinking about myself, I'm looking at trying to help about 5 around me too (my immediate family, plus redundancy) and some people react better to different meds.

Condoms = many uses.

midol = for women around me. In a SHTF scenario the last thing I need is their fussin'!

tampons = see above about midol.

Ti cup, yes..I plan on replacing the collapsable with a Ti cup.

How about a "gunna"? Its what the main character in Stephen King's "Dark Tower" series called his man-purse.

And I don't see what the big deal is with man-purse. I am comfy with my manhood and do not need to feel reassured that no item on my person is feminine in any sort of way.

I don't see any water in your heavly loaded bag. Seems to me that water may be a faily important item to have in a daily carry bag/BOB/man-purse.

Probably more important than anything listed (except for the condoms:neener: ).

I think guys that who are spun up about a guy carrying a "man purse" are probably insecure about their own sexuality with good reason.:neener:

Anyone remember the frontiersmans "possibles bag"? Same thing.

I have the older version of this with me all the time -

It's been around the Smokeys and El Yunque Rainforest National Park and to the office and the range. I don't carry a fraction of what OS has stuffed in his, but I'm focused on getting by for 3 days with what I'm carrying and don't intend to look after 5 people. Tampons and Maxi Pads are substitutes for proper wound dressings. They're what you use when you don't have a properly equipped first aid kit. Same for the meds. Midol is primarily Tylenol or Ibuprofen depending upon which version is purchased. Seperate caffine tabs should be added. Aspirin and Tylenol round it out unless you get something stronger from your doctor. Add Benadryl and Pseudofed and Imodium and you've covered most of your bases. Buy the generic store brand. Seal it well against light and air (film canisters still make the best storage containers).

OS, three things,

1) First my thanks.

Wow... and I thought I carried too much stuff...Thank you sir, for showing my wife that there are others out there far worse than I .....

+1 :)

Also my compliments. I carry the same purse, ( let's hope we don't show up at the same range with the same purse and shoe at the same time  ) and you have managed to fit more into your purse than I do in mine. Do you give lessons ? :)

2) I think those suggesting too much variety forget as you stated

this is not a "bug out bag" but more of an "everyday and emergency bag."

and that

Its funny though, everyone around me thinks I'm totally nuts until they need something.

Same thing happens to me at work all the time. You are carrying stuff not just for yourself but knowing you may give it to others, so you want variety and manufacturers (SP?) packaging. (otherwise for my BOB I use thin strips of vaccum sealer bags for pills, one long strip may have up to a dozen pills in it, but that is for personal use only you obviusly give stuff away. :) )

3) Possible suggestions

Monofiliament fishing line and/or string Ihave para cord, string and monofiliment fishing line 60# strength, 4 AA batteries instead of 2 ( many electronic devices take 4 not 2 AAs ), a red wax/china marker it can write on almost anything including glass, pencil with erasor (good for cleaning electrical contacts ) and do you have the extra bulb in your surfire carrier ?

Excellent job and for those gentlemen with the "purse" comments go on out and buy a .500 S+W Magnum if you are uncomfortable about you manliness ( preferably the Scandium model with the 2" barrell  ).

NukemJim

PS Optical, thank you for being a LEO I know sometimes LEOs get flamed online much more than appropriate. I would not wish to do your job.NukemJim
