Maybe it wasn’t 20 but I’d say at least 10. I didn’t count the misfires. Maybe I was short releasing the trigger as I come from good 1911 background
On revolvers, there is no such thing as catching the link so the trigger is more like rowing the boat--fully back and forth.

Next time you have a misfire, stop, and open the cylinder and look from any primer indentation. You can also get some cheap feeler gages at the local auto supply store (these are useful for revolvers in general) and determine your headspace at the rear and the cylinder gap (distance between front of the cylinder and barrel).

If you are getting light strikes on the primer, then either your headspace is too long or your firing pin protrusion when firing is too short. The feeler gages will tell the story which is which.

So 15-20% failure to fire rate, and you're happy? Unless I could determine that it was ammo, and not gun related I would be very unhappy.

The op said that his new Cobra is intended for EDC duties. This failure to fire rate would concern me greatly. Unless he's using sub-par reloads, a 15-20% failure rate to fire would be a very unlikely (though certainly "possible") happening with almost any new factory ammunition source. The op certainly needs to determine the reason for the misfires (a weak or improperly installed mainspring comes to mind) and fixing it before ever relying on the gun for self-defense.

The gun is not being carried at this time due to no holster (in the mail) and the more I think about it the more concerned I get. Phone call first thing in the morning to colt is gonna happen

On a good note.. when this issue is fixed I’m confident that this is going to be “the gun” for me! It fits my hand perfectly. It’s perfectly balanced, trigger is amazing, I like the sight picture. It’s very accurate and follow up shots are awesome. Shoots like a squirt gun with 38 special plinking ammo, I would assume hotter stuff is going to be manageable

I figured I’d put some more ammo through it first before I think the guns at fault. ( different brand of ammo)
Good plan. Different ammo and take your time fully releasing the trigger to allow it to reset to eliminate that as the cause. Examine the primers to see if you're getting light strikes. I use cheap Remington 38 spl ammo at the range and get a dud every few hundred rounds but never have had more than one in a session. Obviously, don't trust it for carry until you get to the bottom of the issue. Then test it for a few hundred rounds to make sure it's right. Glad your very happy with your new revolver!

I have had no failures to fire with my two 2019 King Cobras. Sweet triggers. The 4-1/4” is the newest, so only a couple of boxes of 38 special 158 grain FMJ practice rounds and a box of 158 grain JSP magnums. Right now it is a range toy until I can get a chest rig for it. Played with it yesterday in the woods. The 3” model has had more rounds through it, about half & half magnums & specials. It is my EDC around the property. I replaced the front bead with a hi viz front sight. Picks up light better in the woods. Both guns have worked flawlessly with Federal, Buffalo Bore and HPR ammo. I’m on a waiting list for a 4-1/4” 2020 Python...

The KC is going back to colt this week. I got through on the phone ( kinda hard to do) and the fellow couldn’t have been nicer. Great customer service. I’m very pleased. We talked about 4-6 weeks sounds about right to him depending on what it is

Returning any gun, especially one that still has the "new car smell", is aggravating and disappointing but you are doing the smartest and safest thing in this instance. Keep us informed as to how your experience with Colt customer service is. I'm curious as to whether Colt is having the gun shipped and returned on their dime.

I love my new model king cobra 3 in.
It is definitely one of the revolvers I will never sell.
I've never had any failures to fire with any ammo.
To what do you attribute the failures to fire?
That is extremely alarming in a revolver and extraordinary rare!
Figure that out ASAP or get ready to send it back to COLT.

I also bought the 4-inch but then realized it was pointless. Ended up trading it for two brand new Glock 19 and 32 AR-15 brand new pmags in the wrappers Plus a dozen extra Glock 19 mags in a MAG case plus two holsters and 2 mag pouches. So in the end my four in pointless Colt can now almost buy me the new model python!
But I don't think I'll get one because I've seen that they are having a lot of issues.
I've read on this site that they've had problems as well but does anyone have more experience with the new model Colt pythons and if they're getting any better?
Otherwise I'll stick to my Dan Wesson's which are more accurate anyway!

I’m thinking my issue is light hammer spring or rear headspace for maybe? I don’t know, I ran two different boxes of Remington, did it with both

Glad they're taking care of you as they should. I'm sure it will come back functioning properly and you can go back to enjoying it. Ruger , S&W, and apparently Colt occasionally let a few slip out the door with issues. The manufacturer's CS reputation is a major consideration before I buy a new gun these days. Hope you get it back soon.

Little update on the king cobra. It left my possession on 2/28 I believe and was “in line” at colt on 3/04. Recently they finally put an email contact for customer service and I inquired how much longer kinda thing. They originally told me approx 4-6 weeks in the shop depending on what it was. My research shows they strive for 30 day turnarounds. Well I just got the email and it’s going to arrive on wendsday the 1st! I’m super excited. It’s like getting a new one all over again!! Now another 3 weeks for my Kramer scabbard holster to arrive.. I believe colt is really trying to fix stuff!

I just opened the box and the gun is better than it ever was!! It feels like they did a trigger job omg!! It’s perfect. GLASSSS smooth thank you colt!

They also fixed the sticky ejector rod. It’s beyond awesome now and the cyl latch was sticky when it was new but I freed it up with use and kroil but it feels even better. Breath on latch and cyl is open. I put all that stuff in my note to them and asked for any “ updates” available

Good to hear Colt's Customer Service took great care of your King Cobra! Did Colt say what the problem was with your ammo misfires?

No the receipt just says my concerns, “ adjust to factory specs” and “ test fire completed” something to that effect. I hear they don’t really tell you what they do on the warranty repairs
