After hearing more and more good things about FN's, I decided to get a FNP 45 as I was looking for a .45 house/open carry gun. I've been shooting my buddys 1911 and decided I wanted a .45. I was going to get a sig 220 as I love my 229, but the FNP caught my attention. It is very similar to the sigs except for the polymer frame. kinda like a glock w/ a sig top. 14 rnd mags are pretty sweeet too.
I have had one range session w/ it so far, about 100 rnds. I like it a lot, but I need more practice w/ .45. The FNP really sucks up the recoil, its a big gun. Not used to it yet, i think im anticipationg recoil that isnt there, so im shooting low and left, but w/ some ok groups. At the end of the session i switched to the arched backstrap and that seemed to improve things. I was using the straight thinking it would be better for my small hands, but it seems to point better with the arched strap.
There were no malfunctions of any kind. I was using winchester white box 230gr. It runs very smoothly and consistently. All controls operated very smoothly and easily. The hammer is easy to cock. the trigger is similar to my sig 229, but suprisingly, a little lighter and a little shorter reach. much shorter reach in DA mode.
I think I got a good deal; $569 w/ three 14rnd mags (matte stainless slide). It was sales tax holiday weekend too, so saved a little cash there.
I'll put up another range report when i get some more practice.
Heres some pics, sorry my camera is kind of crappy. here it is next to my 229.
