After hearing more and more good things about FN's, I decided to get a FNP 45 as I was looking for a .45 house/open carry gun. I've been shooting my buddys 1911 and decided I wanted a .45. I was going to get a sig 220 as I love my 229, but the FNP caught my attention. It is very similar to the sigs except for the polymer frame. kinda like a glock w/ a sig top. 14 rnd mags are pretty sweeet too.
I have had one range session w/ it so far, about 100 rnds. I like it a lot, but I need more practice w/ .45. The FNP really sucks up the recoil, its a big gun. Not used to it yet, i think im anticipationg recoil that isnt there, so im shooting low and left, but w/ some ok groups. At the end of the session i switched to the arched backstrap and that seemed to improve things. I was using the straight thinking it would be better for my small hands, but it seems to point better with the arched strap.
There were no malfunctions of any kind. I was using winchester white box 230gr. It runs very smoothly and consistently. All controls operated very smoothly and easily. The hammer is easy to cock. the trigger is similar to my sig 229, but suprisingly, a little lighter and a little shorter reach. much shorter reach in DA mode.
I think I got a good deal; $569 w/ three 14rnd mags (matte stainless slide). It was sales tax holiday weekend too, so saved a little cash there.
I'll put up another range report when i get some more practice.
Heres some pics, sorry my camera is kind of crappy. here it is next to my 229.

Peter,

I'm right there with ya brother! We went shooting yesterday and put another 200 rounds through it. Superb guns. When word gets out how accurate, reliable, and recoil friendly they are, everyone will want one (or should).
A+ pistols.

The FNP45 is one of the best new guns out on the market. Not as flashy as the S&W M&P and HK and Springer XD's.... it's marketing is quiet. But the weapon its self, solid, stable, accurate, reliable, and has a good high capacity of big heavy bullets.
It's a winner.

Its a loser for me unless it comes in a variant that does cocked and locked. I despise DA/SA operation and won't buy any more guns that work like that.

Sounds like it has potential Peter. Unlike Wally, I prefer the SA/DA models. A decocker mechanism puts it right where I like it. The magazines look alot like my PX4 mags. 14 Rounds of 45 is a serious payload. How wide is the grip?

Congrats...

Congratulations Peter Gun on your new FNP-45... It's truly a great .45 and you'll love it for many years!!
Have an FNP-9 (only poly I own) and love-it-to-death!! An extremely accurate, quality, flawless shoot at a 'reasonable' price. Wanted the .45 (still don't own one) but went for the '9mm cheaper ammo' excuse. But will be gettin a .45 in the weeks ahead (FNP-45 or Sig 220 or CZ 97BD??).
Like you, impressed with the soft recoil, big-gun feel, the touch of the SA/DA, and the great trigger (love the decocker)! The thing you forgot to mention re: the SIG-220... PRICE... you're savin $200+.
Ditto Glockorama "When word gets out how accurate, reliable, and recoil friendly they are, everyone will want one (or should)." (BTW Great pics!)

Yes, i needed something da/sa w/ decocker. I dont like sa w/ safety and i dont want defense guns w/ different operating protocols.

The mags do look a lot like px4 mags (i have those for my cx4 carbine) and yes, they are big. they do have a very rough looking weld down the back side, but function well.

The grip is big, but it fits my hand much better than the HK or glock .45's. I think the walls of the grip are smaller.

I really wanted to like this gun, but it's too big in the grip for me, just like the Glock21. The XD45 fits me better.

awesome. I have big hands. I'll have to get my mitts on one. I really like FN's products and have been checking out the FNP online, but haven't seen a lot of reviews.
Thanks!

Hello to all -
I'm new to THR. I like your FN. I've been looking at an FN in a 9mm. It seems to be a really good pistola. I think they are made in the USA now, is that right? And the 3 magazine deal is sweet. I'm also looking at a Bersa, which is a nice pistol, esp for the price but only comes with one magazine.
Enjoy your FN. I think it's a beaut. And doesn't that muzzle have a great profile?!

Mike... is that instead-of, or along with the decocker model?...
And will this be the case for the FNP-9 also?

Not sure, Gene, but I believe it's only the FNP-45 that will have the manual safety. Oops, in looking at my most recent listing, a Manual Safety model will be available in 9mm, .40S&W and .45ACP,
