Hiya Guys :) , I've went and done it again, I added another handgun to my collection ...

I've been on the lookout for a hammer fired full Duty size single or single / double action for a while now, because they seem to be getting a little scarce in these parts in omparison to all the plastic striker-fired stuff floating around. There are a couple RIA's and a Para available on the local gun Grapevine but I was looking for something a little bit different than the usual stuff.

Well, I finally found something that fit the bill nicely when a friend that I've done business with before posted this Star Super B for sale for $320 :) . It's a full size 8+1 rd single stack single action 9mm 9x19 that looks strikingly similar to a 1911. Internally this thing actually has more in common with the Browning hi-power then it does with the 1911 because it uses the linkless cam lock Barrel design

The thing that strikes me the most about this Super B is just how thin it is. It's thinner than my 1911 and my Hi Power and it's definitely the thinnest single action I've ever handled. If it wasn't the same length as a full-size 1911 it would be an excellent choice for EDC because it just disappears in a holster, but that's not what I bought it for so it's all good. It has a light recoil spring and the slide to frame fit is snug but it's probably the smoothest slide I've felt as of yet even more so than my Hi Power or my Sig was, which is surprising seeing as how it's just a cheap Spanish single action. The bluing is in really nice shape and it has a fairly nice trigger on it as well, but the trigger seems to be a little lighter with a nice break if you ride your finger high on the trigger rather than low on the trigger because the trigger hinges and slightly moves upward rather than moving straight back like the 1911 does.

Overall and surprisingly enough this is actually a **** nice handgun for what it is. I was looking for a full size range gun but I didn't want to spend too much just for an occasional shooter within reason, and I think I got lucky because I couldn't have asked for anything better than this for the price & it fits right in with my Compact 1911 and my Hi Power so I'm pleased with it.

I also got real lucky because I signed up with DirecTV for satellite and and with CenturyLink for internet over the Black Friday weekend. When I did I qualified for a $200 Visa Rewards card from DirecTV for signing up with them on Black Friday and another $50 Visa Rewards card from CenturyLink for signing up with them because those were the promotions they were offering at the time. Well, as luck would have it the $200 Visa Rewards card from DirecTV showed up in the mailbox yesterday, so realistically as of right now I only have $120 in this Super B. If I count the $50 rewards card towards this I'll only have $70 into it when it gets here. Now, the catch is, is that this only came with 1 magazine so it all depends on how much one or two more magazines will run me as to how much I'll have into this in the end. So, if anyone has an extra magazine or two kicking around for this that they're not using and wouldn't mind selling them that would be awesome :) ...

Had a used Star Model B many years ago and it was a very decent, reliable gun that didn't cost a lot of money. It was easy to shoot and was quite comfortable for those with smaller size hands to use. I also used it to transition beginning shooters from a .22 to a 9mm. The only thing I would have changed about it would have been to give slightly better (as in higher visibility), sights. Other than that it was good to go and saw a lot of range time.

I have a Star Super Model B, and as the above posters say, it looks good and handles very well. I have not shot it yet, because it has the weakest recoil spring I have ever felt in a 9mm pistol. Much weaker than my Radom P-35, which I think is a comparable pistol.

I tried to get a new spring from Wolf Springs, but they sent me one for an ordinary Model B, not a Super, and they are not interchangeable. (Also, in discovering this, I lost the little plug at the end of the recoil spring that engages the barrel bushing on the Super B. It took months to find a replacement.)

Does anyone know a source for Super Model B recoil springs?

I bought one on a whim a couple of months back, in such good condition it appears unissued. These are often used in TV and cinema to sub for 1911 pistols (see "Pulp Fiction", for example) because 9mm blanks are so readily available and the Super B runs them well, being so softly-sprung.

I haven't shot mine yet, but it feels smooth as butter when manually manipulated.

Thanks guys :). I've read just about every thread on these I could find in various gunboards and I haven't found anything that was damning due to light spring issues. Obviously Sootch & Tim didn't have any spring issues otherwise they would have said something about it so I'm not going to worry too much about it :) .
