I just put a colt 1911 on layaway at the lgs, It's extremely used and looks old, but the frame says government issue, here's where it gets tricky, the slide is in Spanish, it says "Politicia Federale Colt semiautomatic" now I don't know much about old colts, but I do know I was told if I ever found one and the frame said government issue I should buy it. No pics yet I finish paying it off in 2 weeks but I'm excited! It's my first colt and I cant wait to shoot it.

More info, it looks parked but I'm not sure, it has old military style small fixed sights, checkered grip, and a lanyard loop, the hammer is the military style, and it has a military trigger, I would like to know how old it is if anybody has any idea, serial # starts with c166xxx

    Sounds like a parts gun.
An old commercial Colt 1911 frame with a Systema slide on it.

Only commercial Colts would have had a C prefix serial number.

And C166xxx is well outside the end of the Systema production that ended at 112,494
    in 1966.

C166xxx would be a commercial Colt frame made in 1933.
