I picked up my new Ruger SP101 today. My first snubby. What a beauty. Cylinder gap is .003" and it locks up like Fort Knox. I threw on some Pau Ferro wood grips on it so I can wrap my pinky around the stock for a better fit. It has a heavy yet confidence-inspiring feel to it. Overall the quality is great.

Thanks to everyone here for their invaluable advice. This forum is top notch.

SP

Thats a nice gun. I just bought a 3" version that I haven't had a chance to take to the range yet but I think that it will be a keeper also.
Good Luck with yours.

Just got back from the range with my 3" .357 SP. Wonderful gun and dead on accurate. I was very impressed. Put about 250 rounds through it, home loaded in the gray range between 38 special and .357. I cant say enough wonderful things about this little gem.

grips

Nice grips forty 5. I like the combat style of grips but my hands are small an I have sweaty hands also so I use the Hogue grips on all my revolvers.

My 2.25" is box stock with the exception of the grip panels. I installed the factory wood panels just for the looks. I've been carrying mine going on seven years and of my two carry pieces, the other is a Glock 21, it is my favorite. The SP is the combination of the right size and right power, I load mine with the mid velocity 125 grn .357 Gold Sabres, for CCW. Mine is on my hip as I type. If I got my pants on, it, or the Glock is there; otherwise one is always in reach. I guess you can tell I like mine.

I love the SP-101!
To me, they just seem like the perfect combination of size, power, and strength. If I could have only one handgun it would be a .357 SP.

I am also a newcomer to the SP101. Acquired a 3" two wks ago. It surprisingly easy to handle with magnums. A friends wife shot it no problem and she's not a regular handgunner. Acurate too. Two small water bottles atomized at 25 yds within 3 shots DA. She's a keeper, so Meprolight front sight is on the way. These grips have got to go though. I have my eye on walnut Badgers.

Intersting thing found out today. HKS speedloaders are somewhat worthless with the stock grips. Faster than one at a time, but one would think they could have engineered around this!! The Badgers look well recessed for speedloaders, but we will see. At least they can be sanded down.

I have had it's older cousin - the Security Six, since 1984. Love it.

You can count on Ruger Revolvers.

Congrats!
