My niece turns eighteen years old friday. She likes to shoot when invited to join us at the range and very responsible. She liked my Keltec Sub 2000 in 9mm that takes Glock mags, so I bought her one.

My family isn't very big on parties, but we are plannning on going to see "Despicable Me" Friday and having a small get together, where I will give her the Keltec.

She's applied to med school and will start next year, yet she (and her mother thank goodness) belives in self defence as a right and a firearm is the best tool for self defence.

When she turns 21 I'll give her my Sig P6. She is deadly accurate with it and wants one of her own. That is unless she finds some other pistol she can't live without.

Great! She will love her gun. Now buy her a case of 9mm and take the weekend off ;) :neener:

Cool!

I'm going to be a downer and say that it's highly unlikely she's applied to med school at age 18. She'll likely be applying in three years if she's starting college now.

Many med schools have a combined undergrad + med degree programs.

Why wait until she turns 21?

That was my question too. Unless they are residents of different states and the gift must go through an FFL.

Here in Maine

You can get you CWP when you turn 18. My daughter is 18 and I bought her and LCP. She will be getting her CWP this fall before she returns to college. In a lot of states you can't own a handgun till you are 21.

I love hearing these types of stories! Always good to hear someone else in this world is now legally armed.

This past April I gave my 20 year old cousin a RRA Entry Tactical for his birthday. (His first gun)

Why not tell her that if she finishes med school and becomes a doctor you'll get her a new gun instead of your P6? She will have accomplished a worthwhile goal and the new pistol would be her award.
