A few weeks ago, I sent an email to Senator Barbara Boxer of California requesting that she give favorable consideration to the carrying of firearms in our national parks.

Here is her response to me:

"Dear Mr. xxxx:

Thank you for contacting my office to express your views on the decision by the U.S. Department of the Interior to review its restrictions on guns in national parks and release new regulations by April 30. Currently, visitors are required to unload and stow their weapons before entering a national park or wildlife refuge. These regulations have been in place for 25 years and have helped make our national parks a safe place for visitors and wildlife. Please know that I strongly oppose all efforts to repeal these regulations, and I will work to keep our national parks and wildlife refuges safe for all.

I believe that all citizens should become involved in the legislative process by letting their voices be heard, and I appreciate the time and effort that you took to share your thoughts with me. One of the most important aspects of my job is keeping informed about the views of my constituents, and I welcome your comments so that I may continue to represent California to the best of my ability. Should I have the opportunity to consider legislation on this or similar issues, I will keep your views in mind.

For additional information about my activities in the U.S. Senate, please visit my website, http://boxer.senate.gov. From this site, you can access statements and press releases that I have issued about current events and pending legislation, request copies of legislation and government reports, and receive detailed information about the many services that I am privileged to provide for my constituents. You may also wish to visit http://thomas.loc.gov to track current and past legislation.

Again, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with me. I appreciate hearing from you.

Barbara Boxer
United States Senator

I replied with a polite request for additional information regarding the facts and circumstances she is basing her opinion on. It seems that she thinks that those who carry guns legally are just waiting to on a shooting spree.

Please feel free to send her additonal emails showing her your opinions. Thanks.

She did reply which is a +1. If enough people contact her she may change her vote. She should vote by her voters opinions not her personnel ones.

She is a little of in the head if she thinks that a person that wants to go a kill wildlife in a park wouldn't go a head and break the carry law also.

She's wrong.

However, her letter is an excellent model: clear, concise and focused.

We could profit by her example.

If my opponent wields the pen to take away my sword,
I'll master the pen in order to keep it.

Remember: never bring (only) a gun to a penfight. ;)

Sounds like a kick-in-the-teeth form letter to me.

Thanks for contacting me, but I believe in the opposite, so I'm going to vote that way whether or not you like it. Keep sending your letters so I can keep my staff busy ignoring them and sending useless form letters back.

I have class with a T.A. who used to work for a Senator in D.C. In case you were wondering, it's all cut and paste and done by assistants. If you think she ever saw those words you are sorely mistaken. What she sees is a tally of responses based on the issues, X opposed, Z in favor, but nothing more than that.

Everyone else is right, the odds she ever read mail are slim to none. Your mail is just a number evaluated as either in favor or against an issue, condensed and formulated by an assistant who could care less about the points you make and just finds the best cut and paste responses to fit your issue.

Long Live America.

Still, better make sure that the amount of pro RKBA letters to the senators are as large as possible to match the wellfunded antigun lobby.

you would get better use of your time trying to teach a pig to dance. Pigs are smarter and can learn new things.

I forgot to mention that the silly twit seems to have no clue that you can carry a gun in wildlife refuges.

At least she aknowledged that you are alive. I've written to Lautenburg a half dozen times, and never got any response at all. And I'm a Democrat!

I genuinely hate that man.

I don't suppose Babs mentioned anything about her own California CCW Permit?

I will keep your views in mind.

I'm sure she will.

And its not like that form email was sent by a 22 year old intern who cut and paste it on there before rushing off to make some coffee. I'm sure the Senator typed that out herself. ;)

At least you tried!

While I have to agree that Ms. Boxer has her mind made up and will not be dissuaded by any factual or logical evidence to the contrary, I would remind one and all that she is an elected representative and hence due at least a modicum of respect. Resorting to slurs and referring to her as "Babs" and Charles Schumer as "Chuckie" serves no purpose other than to shed us as gun owners and supporters of 2A/RKBA in a bad light.

I too have been guilty of such...but we've literally come down to the wire on this thing, and when we resort to this sort of terminology...we promote the very image of the beer-swilling redneck Bubba that they're using to convince the fence-sitters that we really should have our gun rights revoked and our guns taken...forcefully if necessary.

So...I've begun to mend my ways. No matter how badly the inner self wants to go onto a public forum and type profanities at these people...it's not good for our image and it's not good for our cause because it's the same reaction that we get from the ultra-liberal gun haters. When they can't respond to a logical, well thought out line of reasoning in an intelligent fashion...they resort to name-calling, ridicule, and character assassination.

Let us not stoop to that level. We're better than that.

I'm better than that.

I'm better than that.

I'm better than that.

I'm better than that.

Crap, this isn't working, I'm burning up here.

Let these people stoop to those levels:

“We must beware of trying to build a society in which nobody counts for anything except a politician or an official, a society where enterprise gains no reward and thrift no privileges” - Winston Churchill

"Politicians are a set of men who have interests aside from the interests of the people and who, to say the most of them, are, taken as a mass, at least one long step removed from honest men” - Abraham Lincoln

“Whoever makes two ears of corn, or two blades of grass to grow where only one grew before, deserves better of mankind, and does more essential service to his country than the whole race of politicians put together” - Jonathan Swift

"I'm always rather nervous about how you talk about women who are active in politics, whether they want to be talked about as women or as politicians” - John Fitzgerald Kennedy

There. I didn't have to say a thing. ;)

"Resorting to slurs and referring to her as "Babs" and Charles Schumer as "Chuckie" serves no purpose other than to shed us as gun owners and supporters of 2A/RKBA in a bad light."

Sorry Tuner, but my mother's name is Barbara. Some people call her "Babs".
If it's good enough for my mother, it's good enough for the elitist senator from California.

The dirty little secret of busy people is that they staff out most of their corresspondence... Okay, it's not much of a secret. Anyhow, lawyer, doctors, politicos, business executives, so on and so forth have people who write letters for them.

Now, I make a pretty decent wage as a legal secretary and about 2/3 of my work day are spent on corresspondence. I also read a fair amount of letters and pleadings sent by other attorneys. Ethically, nothing can leave the office bearing the attorney's signature unless (s)he has read it. True, some of the "form letters" only get a passing glance, but we send out five of those a day.

With regards to the letter from Sen. Boxer, paragraphs two and three are clearly universal comments to anyone who writes her about a bit of legislation. Yes, it is canned bu that doesn't make it less sincere. 'Thanks for your comments, I'll consider them next time.'

The first paragraph was probably written by staff, but they would have been given their marching orders on the issue by the Senator. If it bears her signature, then the Senator is saying she approves of its content.

We had a young woman here in North Georgia killed in a national park. The pervert hit her with a collapsible baton and loaded her and her BIG dog in a van and drove off. He got caught because he used her credit card. Turns out he had killed in the parks before.

One of the things I am contemplating doing with my boys is wilderness hiking but my wife is pitching a hissy fit because it is TOO DANGEROUS. Part of her reasoning is if we got hurt no one would know but she is more scared of TWO LEGGED predators.

Politicians like Boxer are beyond redemption but they can be voted out of office if their views do not match their constituency. Unfortunately from my view in Georgia she seems to be reflecting the will of her people just fine.

my mother's name is Barbara. Some people call her "Babs".

Understood...but there is a difference between an affectionate pet name among friends and family and applying it to someone who hasn't indicated that they're okay with it. My name is John. People who know me call me Johnny, and I prefer Johnny. I have a friend whose name is also John...but he takes exception to anyone calling him Johnny except for his mother and immediate family.

If you met Ms. Boxer personally...would you call her "Babs"? I wouldn't...and I have no use for her politics whatsoever. On a personal level, she may well be a fine, charming lady...and probably is.

Unfortunately from my view in Georgia she seems to be reflecting the will of her people just fine.

Precisely.

I wonder if the armed guards she travels with will also unload and show empty their sidearms before she enters a national park? She's a hypocrite and a danger to the future of this country.

It sounds like a very polite "**** you, I have my platform, my rhetoric, and my ideology all worked out and I don't need you pesky citizens trying to change it."

at least that's what I get from it.

ETA-> I will never go into any woods outside of town unarmed. just my platform

eta again-> Great job Steverjo! this kind of post is excellent and informative, and will inspire other members to do similiar things.
