One of those "I'm going to get around to it one of these days" propositions. When it comes to .22s for target shooting I have been a Ruger Mk.II fan for most of my life. For just plain old plinking fun with a revolver I have a Ruger Single Six and a S&W Model 34. So by the time I figured on picking up a Model 17 the asking price was too much for me to justify getting one.

Same. Except I've only got 2 kids but they're both under 4 years old. My wife's frugal and cringes when I spend like a drunken sailor . coincidentally I also cuss like a drunken sailor, she hates that too . I may have missed my true calling - being a full blown drunken sailor
Sing along with me "what do you do with the drunken sailor? what do you do with the drunken sailor? what do you do with a drunken sailor erlie in the morning?!:alien:

Hope we don't get kicked off the Revolver Forum for talking about semi-autos here but I have to say my Ruger Mk.II has been so accurate, reliable, and such a downright joy to shoot that I never felt a pressing need for a target revolver like the S&W Model 17. It would be nice to have one and all that but I didn't have any specific role for it to fill.

Actually when I got my Mk.II at a gun show years ago, the fellow I bought it from also had a limited edition
Ruger Single Six Bisley done up the same way as the Mk.II with a polished stainless grip frame and a deep blued frame, cylinder, and barrel. Both were priced the same but I could only afford one. Came down to two factors: 1) the Bisley looked sweet and it felt really well balanced but it was only 6 shots compared to the 10 round magazine in the Mk.II, and 2) when I went to this gun show I really had my heart set on getting another .22 target pistol, especially if it was a Model 512 with a 5 1/2" bull barrel, which this one was.

Hmmm...I had to look that one up. It would be cool to get this one then have a 38-40 cylinder made for it.

Ill admit my list isnt entirely current production. The 38-40/10mm was a special distributor exclusive. Don't know if it or the Toklat are currently made.

For those not in the know, the 38-40 is a .400 bullet, just like the 10mm/40S&W. Same grain weights too.

Interesting. I posted earlier in haste about a GP100 in 10mm due to work. After reading this thread, I've realized I was itching more than I thought... None of these are any kind of collectible, but I'm interested in all of them:

Ruger SP101 in .357
Ruger SP101 in .327
Ruger Super Redhawk in .44 Magnum
Possibly a .44 Special, make not necessarily important.

So this list sounds like a Ruger fanboy's list and I don't really mean for it to. I only have experience with a Security Six (357), a GP 100 (357), a Wrangler (.22). a Taurus Model 82, a, EAA Witness in .357 (sold) and two Smiths. One was a 637 Airweight and the other is an M and P Bodyguard 38 Crimson Trace I took in trade. Both of those I had to WANT to practice with. I beg forgiveness for my ignorance. :) The SP 101 is attractive due to it's size. I load 38 SPC already, and the wife and I enjoy shooting wadcutters on our property, so it's kind of a no-brainer. The 327 looks like a really neat cartridge with many opportunities, but that means more reloading gear. The .44 is something I think I want, but I've only shot one a few times a long time ago, and unfortunately, I've had my right trigger finger amputated since then (my dominant palm is smaller now). Not to mention reloading components are hard to come by currently. I shoot my G20 clone just fine with that hand, so maybe not an issue. IDK. Don't mean to hijack the thread, please edit/delete as needed.

New:
Ruger GP-100 3" 10mm
Freedom Arms 97/.327 Federal 4.25" round butt

Used:
90s vintage S&W 625/.45 ACP and 629/.44 Magnum Mountain Guns
90s vintage S&W 629 5" Classic

Everything on my revolver list is something I owned previously and foolishly let go-

A minty S&W 29
A minty Singapore Police Webley (or any Webley Mk. IV)
A blued 6” half-lug GP-100
A Charter Arms Bulldog Pug

The current gun short list in my head is tilted towards autos right now, so there's not a lot of revolvers I am looking to get. Keeping an eye out for a Model 64 (lock vs no lock doesn't really faze me) or a Security Six at a decent price.

The 17 is like the revolver version of the Mk II, that 22 that you can't miss with. You wouldn't regret buying one at all.

No.

There is nothing currently being manufactured that I am interested in.

Mildly interested in a Ruger Wrangler but with 3 Three Screw Single Sixes and a bunch of S&W and Colt 22s I doubt if I will be buying one.
I own a Wrangler and a few Single Sixes. There is no comparison. You made the right choice.

Another S&W 60-4 and make my first one a dedicated 9mm with the 940 cylinder I have.
Cimmaron Model P jr, just for cheap giggles
S&W 586 I had before, it was cut for moon clips, round butted, and half lugged.
Have Bowen ream one of my 581s to 41 mag, maybe a 5 shot cylinder to prevent possible blow outs, if a 6 shot worked that would be fun.
