My Ruger RXM

I had an old Glock 43 that I never take out of the safe any longer especially with all my micro 9s and Bodyguard 2.0 so it was collecting dust so I traded toward the new Ruger RXM. I know a lot of people don’t care for Glocks or clones but out of the box I’m seeing great improvements of the standard Gen 3 Glock 19. Tons of reviews out there on this already and I have to agree with many of the aspects discussed.

Trigger to me feels a lot less squishy compared to all Glocks that I’ve owned. The other pluses are the chassis system, grip (Magpul collab), optics ready, better than standard Glock sites, Glock compatability, oh and the biggest thing much better PRICE. Anxious to see additional grips that come out from Magpul and other vendors. Can’t be far off.

Mounted a Holosun 507 to it and will report on range performance as soon as I can get to my range which hopefully will be in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks for looking. Anyone else have one that they fired and willing to share some thoughts?

I like what I've read and seen about em. Thinking about getting one when they come with the black grip.

Thanks for your posts @ukwolfeman
I look forward to your range trip report.
I’m interested in an RXM. I currently own 3 Glocks. I did own a G43 and a G48. I didn’t care for the grip on them. After nearly every shot I had to readjust my grip. I owned a G44 and a G19. The hump on the rear of the grip threw off my aim. Rather than remove the hump I sold them. I prefer the full size grip like on my G45 and my 2 G34s.
I am hoping the RXM grip feels as good as it looks to me.

I've handled them quite a bit at the LGS. The grip through the upper frame feels fatter than the Glock 19 Gen 3, probably due to extra material needed to house the removable chassis system (as opposed to molded-in frame rails). The grip frame also feels stiffer like all Magpul polymer products (eg. Magpul GL mags)... can't say whether that is good or bad. My guess is this will reduce frame flex, leading to faster cycling but increasing felt recoil.

The trigger is quite good for a combat pistol. The iron sights, while useful with an RDS, are not so tall as to be awkward when used as is.

I've never warmed up to the Magpul GL mags. The super-oversized baseplate is fairly ridiculous on a carry gun.

The major comment from most customers and the LGS people is that Ruger should have included a second grip frame (shorter/longer) with the package, and that would have made the purchase more attractive. It seems like at the moment most customers are saying "why buy a knock-off when I can get the original"?, since the knock-off isn't adding any perceived value other than a minor price reduction.

I wouldn’t mind the blue/gray frame. I would prefer a dark brown or dark green frame.
A few years ago I used RIT Dye to color an FDE stock blue. It actually didn’t look bad.
I have seen many people in a PSA Dagger group post about getting the gray frames. I think they liked the gray because it was easier to use with the RIT dye. Since then PSA added more colors.

A few years ago, the only Poly80 gripframe I could get as I was collecting parts was an OD green frame. I put a stainless slide on it and wasn't impressed, so I bought some RIT dye and turned it very close to black with great results. I boiled it for about 20 minutes and it was good to go after it dried.

Have a couple hundred rounds thru mine now, like the blacked out rear sights, extra height works good on single handed loading drills too.

Inside of magwell is tapered at the rear, no crossmember like a gen 3 so nothing to catch a loaded mag on.

The mag release extends farther than a stock gen 3 and the slide lock/release is angled out a little like aftermarket, making both easier to release, good since I'm left handed and operate them with my index finger.

The takedown tabs also stick out further than stock Glock, makes field stripping easier.

Trigger is ok, my experience is that Glock triggers need several hundred rounds to settle down.

While the frame is relieved some under the trigger I'll probably remove some more, just me.

I read somewhere the grip angle is somewhere between a 1911 and a Glock, liked the Ruger.

I like Holosun, will probably stick a 407 on it.

I'm an old time Ruger collector but have relied on Glocks for classes and everyday carry for years. It's kinda neat to have a Ruger I'd consider for my EC.

Range Update: Was able to put about 400 rounds through the RXM last night. Absolute pleasure to shoot and much better than a standard Glock 19 as the grip and trigger outmatch. Doesn’t feel as snappy either. I look forward to reading about other experiences with the RXM.

I used Monarch, American Eagle, Federal, Magtech, and Blazer for the most part with zero failures. So glad we recently got an Academy locally as the Monarch ammo is fantastic.

Looking forward to seeing the various grips and slides Ruger and Magpul produce as I expect a micro and an X at least.

Thanks for reading.

@ukwolfeman Thank you for the range report.

Many people that shoot Glocks complain of rounds hitting low and left. It used to happen to me and still does on occasion.
Do you see this tendency with the RXM?

Side Note: We are getting an Academy Sports here soon. I will have to check out this Monarch ammo. Is it an Academy brand?

The 'low-left' isn't just a Glock issue; it's the result of not managing the trigger correctly. It's 'pushing' the trigger, and is often corrected by putting a little less finger on the trigger.

It's something that will often return if you've shot 1911 or other 'good trigger' guns for a while, and it will take some practice to re-learn the striker-style trigger.

Yes, I know. I asked because the gun is new to the owner.
I can recall not shooting my Glocks in a while as I was paying more attention to my revolvers and lo and behold, I was hitting the target low and left. 😆

With the RXM?
Did this occur with the Canik?
I ask because I am pretty sure my next autoloader will be one of those two. I am leaning towards the RXM. I Have lots of mags for my Glocks. It’s merely a curiosity.

I don't have an RXM, but I have quite a few Glocks, a couple of Daggers and a couple Polymer 80's, so I'm very familiar with their trigger systems, though most of mine have been modded with Apex and Ghost parts at this point.

I also have two Canik's, a Mete SFX and a Mete MC9. There's much less tendency to do the 'low-left' pull simply because the triggers are so much better; my SFX has, by far, the best trigger I've ever felt on a striker-fired gun. It's eminently shootable, even for a die-hard 1911 guy.

This is five rounds at 33' cold (first shots of the day) with the SFX, as an example, offhand:

Exactly much better trigger PDP to be exact. Now the stock trigger on the RXM is superior to Glock standard. I’ve had similar issues initially with Glocks. I think the RXM was easier to correct due to the trigger and grip combo.

I shot my Nephew’s Canik METE and was quite impressed with my target after putting 10 rounds in and around the X at 10 yards with Blazer Brass 9mm ammo. For my first time shooting it I was quite surprised…so was he.
I shot several mags in his gun and was very impressed.

I got one. Mounted a cheaper optic on it and have been running only factory range ammo through it and haven't tried to check accuracy. I was able to hit a pig silhouette steel plate at 115yds off-hand with it. So there's that.

I also have a Glock G19 Gen 5 MOS with a red dot that I've had a few years. This is $200 cheaper and is better. I spent a bunch of money on the more popular 9mm self-defense ammo available and am planning a complete head-to-head range session for accuracy and chronograph results with the Ruger and the Glock.

I haven't found anything I don't like about it so far. The Magpul mags are inferior to factory Glock mags, but I already had a bunch of the Glock ones, so just use those.

Fatter than a Glock?!?!

I already have issues with reaching the trigger on a g19.

If the ruger is worse then it's a nogo for me.
