Anyone else shoot an M&P .40?

I picked up the first one that came into my area, and I'm really happy with it. I have large hands, and the removable backstraps made me a pistol that fits real well- lots of others don't, and I've tried quite a few. 1911s, Glocks, etc., didn't fit my hand well or pointed funny for me. Never been a big revolver type of guy.

2ndly, how's it shoot? I've been toying w/ the idea of re-examining the 40 s&w and the M&P is on my short list for potential guns for this re-examination.

It shoots better than me, LOL, but it's one of the handier pistols I've tried out. I wish I'd shelled out the extra cash for night sights, since I've started CCWing it.

The trigger reset is a little hard to feel sometimes, especially when new.
The thing was not made to have the slide released by the slidelock lever. I spent a couple of days wondering if I was getting old and weak until I figured out that the fish scallops on the back of the slide are for slingshotting the slide. This is one of those guns that you just can't make jam- a friend of mine and I spent a couple of hours limp wristing it, shooting it upside down and whatever else we had the time and ammo for, and it was really tough to get it to malf. You can make it stovepipe, but I was only holding it loose with a thumb and forefinger by that time, and I dropped it when I fired it. Its got almost a thousand rounds down the pipe so far and its starting to smooth out some. It hits where I point it, too, no complaints in the accuracy ddept.

I think its a good pistol.

Just picked up an MP9 myself and love it. I've been a diehard Glock fan for ten years and I'd rather shoot my MP.

I rented a M&P 40S&W yesterday in contemplation of a purchase, and threw a couple of hundred rounds downrange thru it. Dang nice pistol. Good capacity, remarakably good accuracy, takedown was easy, trigger was much better than expected, and in general it left a favorable impression on me.

I think that, for my hands, it needs a broader frontstrap. It didn't index and point for me quite as naturally as, say, one of my CZs or Sigs. Even with the largest backstrap installed, I would wind up pointed slightly left of target when closing my eyes and going thru the motions of drawing and pointing with it.

That was the only reason that I didn't walk out the door with one, and (if I had not other pistols against which it would compete) would likely be something that could be addressed with training.

A guy at the local range let me run a couple magazines through his MP40. I was very impressed. Shot it better than my 1911. It had far less recoil than I thought it would. Trigger was very short/crisp for a DA auto. Can't wait to get one for myself!

I've had an M&P 40 for a while and I'm very impressed with it. I've shot several hundred rounds through it without a single stutter.

I sent it off to S&W two weeks ago to have the new extended slide release installed so you don't have to use the slingshot method. I should get it back early this week and I can't wait to test it out at the range.

I posted a picture of the new release I got from another board member. The new one is on the right and extends out more.
