It's not really a need. It's just something I like to do. I think my primary desire stems from just wanting to take one gun to the range to use and use and use, and have the other be a safe queen (maybe to pass on later in life to my children). Or if I eventually have 2 kids later on in life, they'd both get identical collections.... etc. It's all nonsense in reality, but it satisfies my quirky itch.

I couldn't do that even if I won the lottery. Can't buy moe than one regulated rifle or handgun in a 30 day period in the peoples republic of MD

If you have the money lawing around, by all means, BUY SOME GUNS. If it's AWB preparation you're considering, keep in mind that 1911s, 1911 mags, Kahr pistols, Kahr magazines, the S&W 642, etc. won't be affected unless an outright handgun ban passes somehow, which this country will not allow.
It may be more frugal to buy any "evil" rifles, magazines for those which hold >10 rounds, and any pistol magazines for pistols you may want one day which hold more than 10 rounds. Does that make sense?
I know nobody knows exactly what any possible legislation will look like, but many of us have a good idea. The idea of an outright Federal handgun ban is (hopefully) as likely as a Civil War II.
