With my pickup of a Rashid at the gunshow last weekend, I now have an example of each type of 7.62x39 semi-auto military rifle.

    From top to bottom:
    VZ-52/57 SHE
    Rashid
    Yugo M59/66

Neat! Is the Rashid deliberately made in the likeness of an M1 Carbine? There's more than a passing resemblance.

As far as I can tell from the rather sketchy info on the web, the Rasheed is simply a 7.62x39 shrink of the 8mm Hakim (which, of course, was a copy of the 6.5x55 AG-42B Ljungman).

But now that you mention it, the front end does have quite a resemblance.

I have a spare mag for the 52/57 if you need one. Also, did it happen to come from WI? Looks exactly like the one I traded to Lock, Stock, & Barrel. It would be kind of interesting to find out it made it cross country:)

I think the guy I bought it from was from ID, although he claimed to be selling it for a friend. (This may or may not have been a ruse so he wouldn't have to negotiate on price.)

If it helps, the SN was two digits repeated, those two digits being the reverse of the name of a lumber company.

Not sure about the wood. It looks a lot like the wood used on Finnish Mosins, but a bit less dark and with more of a yellow tint.

I'm just glad Century didn't get to it with that God-awful truckbed liner crap.
