I just launched the second version of my website, www.gunrating.com, and I would like to get some feedback from fellow gun forum folks as to what they think of the website.

It is a site that lets users of firearms like you and me leave reviews for all to read. It also has a rating system that will average out the ratings per firearm and really give a clear view of a true rating.

anyways, can't wait to read your feedback!@ thanks!

Good idea... I really hope it works out. The only problem I could think of is that people might review guns that they don't own, but it would be a pretty sad individual to do such a thing.

Nice!

Your site has some real potential. You have identified a niche (gun reviews) that hasn't been served yet with community generated content. You could be the gun owners Digg, Slashdot, or Fark if you have the time. Shame there isn't much decent content (other people's) to link to :-(

Site design needs work in terms of aesthetic (sp?). The color scheme is plain, the signup/login buttons should not appear when logged in.

Usability. To much personal info required to register, form shows up buggy in firefox. DON'T mail people's passwords to them in the confirmation email!!!!@!!! People reuse passwords and cleartext can be intercepted, major privacy issue. Once your in the interface seems clean and is a great start. The recent reviews and top rated etc. is a good start for browsing options and the search box is okay too. You might as well expose as many fields as possible to search i.e. keywords, price, tags, features (capacity, price, caliber, etc.). Allow entry of full/partial serial numbers with reviews so users can track the frequency of defects, allow scores along multiple dimensions (Price, Features, Difficulty, Ergonomics, Maintenance, Concealibility, Reliability etc.) also allow users to describe themselves so that you can generate suggestions (users like you also liked xyz). A field for out the door price, also tie the state/region where the gun was bought to the review. Retain and expose everything possible to search and browsing. It is important to allow the less technical users who don't understand search to browse by a variety of aspects and then drill down by feature in any order they think of.

I for one will be watching closely. Dang near unlimited ways to go with this.
