Ok, sorry for these vs. threads, and I've already read up on the archives.

But I dont see much being written about the Winchester M70 Stealths. I'm guessing because they're hard to come by?

Well, around here Remington PSS's are around $899, w/ the best price I've seen @ $799. I've held the PSS, seemed nice, but the bolt action seemed a bit rough. I've read great things about the PSS and well, everyone seemed to have one.

My gunsmith can get a Winchester Stealth for $700. Is the PSS really that much better than the Stealth, and is it worth $100 - $200 more?

And most importantly, for the stealth owners, how much do you like your gun? And what made you choose a Stealth over the PSS.

I've never had the chance to look at a Win. Stealth since no one around here has one. If the results are good enough I might have my dealer order one for me.

Should I go for the Winchester or shell out the money for the Remington

Scope Question:

What is the main difference between The Leupold Vari. I vs. the Leupold Vari II. I'm new to scopes also and my dealer said the only difference is the audible clicks on the Vari. II's. Is the Vari I 4 - 12x40 good enough for the mentioned Bolt Rifle? Or should I shell out the money for the Vari. II / Vari. III?

Oh yeah, post pics of your PSS's/ LTR's and Win. M70 Stealths. :)

Thanks

Not to rain on your parade, but be sure you are aware of the new Winchester Stealth II. They changed the Stealth to the Stealth II for 2004.

Winchester Stealth II Specifications

They changed up the stock. It's a different design. I don't know who makes them (the previous Stealth had HS Precision iirc). Also, the twist rate on the .308 is now 1 in 10 instead of 1 in 12. I'm not if this is good or bad. My Savage 10FP in 308 uses a 1 in 10 twist, but pretty much all Remingtons use 1 in 12, yet the Savage is still wickedly accurate.

See if you can compare the two in person to get a feel of any differences between the Stealth and Stealth II.

I think I remember you mentioning in an earlier post about how you were price checking the PSS in SoCal. I'm amazed that $799 is the best price for a 700P/PSS in this area.

You going to the Crossroads guns show on the weekend of Feb 7-8 at the OC Fairgrounds? Maybe you'll find a vendor who's got a deal on a 700P? Precision Arms in Escondido sells the 700P for $795, but I remember their show price being cheaper.
