So according to Chases 2006 Calendar of Events, January is National Personal Self-Defense Awareness Month. This is the first time i've ever heard of this, but that is neither here nor there.

Since next month is an official designee for Personal Self-Defense, I was wondering if any of you will go out of your way to help make others aware of the need to take a pro-active approach to their own self-defense or re-asses your own self-defense needs or increase your self-defense measures in honor of the designation?

If nothing else, the idea that January is Nat'l Self-Defense Awareness Month could generate some interesting conversation here :) Discuss!

Why'd they place it, statistically speaking, during the one of the lowest violent crime months of the year?

Because we haven't yet perfected direct brain hookups to put skills directly into your mind. Competence with self defense takes time, and incomplete skills can be more dangerous than no skills.

Hey, 777 posts! Cool. Only 233 to go before I get a toaster.

I believe it was in the 1980's that they began inventing all these new holidays. I'd be so bold as to point at the first MLK Day which was celebrated in 1986 as having opened the floodgates. Liberal special interests were given an inch and they took a mile. Now every day, week, and month is claimed with no end in sight.

As if all these holiday concessions weren't enough to satiate their demand for self importance they've gone on to dilute the value of our traditional holidays by changing the very day on which they are celebrated. :scrutiny:

And you wonder if there is a "war on Christmas" or why? They don't know when to stop! They are like the antigunners who want machine guns today and hunting rifles tommorrow.

National self defense day? Forget about it, I won't be played like a fiddle.

Love them holidays :)
