    Axel,

A better approach would be to focus now on the Senate instead of the Whitehouse. The Senate will now decide what version, if any, of legislation requiring all states to recognize carry permits issued by other states goes to a vote. Without the Senate there will be nothing.

The House passed the bill with a pretty good margin but don't think it means much. A lot of House democrats who don't support a reciprocity law would say 'Aye' in the House to pass the bill because they know full well it's got a snowball in hell's chance of passing the Senate but would help them hang onto some of their pro-gun constituents. Even if a miracle happened the President would veto and there's absolutely no chance of an override. Just too many liberals in Congress and the Executive.

Do not sign any petition that will allow the federal government access to your right to carry a firearm. What they give. They can take away. Leave the CCW to the states where it belongs. The individual states have been doing a fine job. We don't need the feds muckin' it up like everything else they have had thier fingers in.

No. This needs to pass and here's why.

If we were so strict about the right v privilege argument that we never wanted the government involved in the process at all, then today, we wouldn't have 49 of 50 states allowing some kind of carry, with 41 being shall-issue. We have used their own creeping incrementalism against them to the point where being allowed to carry is the norm, rather than the exception. We now have several states that have dropped permits entirely. None of this would have happened if we had insisted on a strict interpretation of rights that says we don't want our rights legislated at all.

The problem with the 'all or nothing' mentality is that the .gov has no problem at all with giving you nothing. In saying that this law is a catastrophe, you are saying that every other state that has passed carry legislation has made a mistake, because we have allowed them the possibility of interfering with our rights. This law further establishes carry as the norm, but you are saying that you don't want it, because of an unknown possibility of regulation. I absolutely disagree. We need to seize the momentum and roll with it while we have it. Once it is in place, it makes it much more difficult to remove.
