National THR Convention--??

This has probably been proposed here ---ran a quick search, nothing came up--but, what are the possibility of having a national THR convention/shoot? Obviously it would have to be planned far in advance, but, hey, professional assosciations have national conventions, the NRA has one, SOF has one. Why not THR?

It is a good idea, and I'd be all for it. I don't know how many others would be willing to travel halfway across the country, though.

It would be nearly impossible because somebody would have to organize this thing for little value other than a social gathering.


I'm willing to hold an East Coast gathering for anyone that is willing to drive up here. Check out the PA thread for pictures of the range. There are hotels and motels near to the range.

Lots of people from THR meet at gun shows and the SHOT shows.


I'll be hosting another gathering in late May or early June.

Ya know Fudgie, it probably didn't help your cause that you first posted the idea on April 1st.

I'd be interested, but it'd have to be within a day's drive, and I'd have to have that weekend off from work (I work 6 day weeks when we have basic trainees in cycle-like now.)

Nothing wrong with the idea Fudgie .... it has been mooted before one way or another. In essence I like it a lot.

Problem is probably same for most people .... time and travel. I went across last Sunday to the PA shoot .. great day and that was only 200 or so miles .... but it was around 7 hrs driving and all in all ... a whole day taken up. Much more than that and I think it'd not be a runner, regardless of how much we may all be individually enthusiastic.

And ... I sure wouldn't want to be the guy trying to arrange and co-ordinate either!!

Allentown airport is a pretty big airport and its only about 20minutes from my club.

Come on up to the PA shoot later this Spring.

SodaPop: Don't you have your shoots in or near Quakertown?

I used to work for a company here in NY, and we had our warehouses and shop in Q-Town, out on Rte 663, near that little airport. Spent alot of time driving down there and also to the Knoll plant in E. Greenville.

From my perspective the best way to generate interest in a national get together would be to link it to another event. The two events that seem to draw THRers from far and wide are The Shot Show and the machine gun shoots at Knob Creek. I know that there are already several who regularly meet at these events. If somebody local to either of these locations could work on setting up a meet and arranging some events it might grow.

Just a thought.
