A quick question I sold a single shot 12ga to a friend of mine a couple months ago not thinking anything of it. Ive bought and sold numerous firearms to and from friends. As im sitting here typing this I just got a call from the jail "I work at a bail bonding office" and it was him on the other end I gave him a fake name as I always do. To keep ppl that know me from saying your my friend come and bond me out w/o money. Its not my office so I have to go by what my boss tells me. Gettin toi the point he was charged w poss a firearm by felon! Can they charge me for selling it to him? I had no idea he was a felon. If I would have known I wouldnt have sold it to him. What if any charges can they bring aginst me?

As long as you didn't know, you ought to be alright. Still, if you knew him very long or very well, the prosecution may make the case that you knew.... even if you didn't. I wouldn't say anything else to anyone.... including this forum.

    Let get this straight.

This "friend" you sold a shotgun to is someone you would not even give your real name to?

Sounds like the OP needs a real live lawyer -- not a bunch of blather on the Internet.

No I always give a false name when dealing w clients no matter if ive known them my whole life for a couple of reasons. Reason one is I dont own this company and everyone expects me to do them a favor when I cant. And I dont want anyone coming after my family because I had to pick them up for missing court.

Unfortunately, your communication is not clear. Are the following points correct?

    1. You know this guy that you sold the shotgun to.

    2. When he called your office, he didn't realize that it was you because you gave him a false name (for reasons explained), but you recognized who he was.

    3. He is a convicted felon when he bought the gun from you, and you did not know this.

Frankly, I'd seek out an attorney to see what the law says about this. You might be fine, but you need to know what NC law states about this.
