Are there any other American manufacturers who make assault rifles in .223 and .308, other than ARMALITE?
I like the armalites, but their options on the scoped or non-scoped rifles are limited....

    Thanks!

Not an evil assault rifle, oops wait a minute, yes they are according to the 94 AWB, but how about a Ruger Mini 14? I have owned two or three on different occasions and currently have one. Never have had any problems with them and are very accurate with iron sights. Plus you can put a scope on one if you so desire.

JLD Enterprises makes the PTR-91 off HK licensed tooling here in the states. The latest issue of the NRA's American Rifleman seems to say their rifles are good stuff.

G3 mags sell for around $3-4 a piece. A much better price than the $50 M1A mags

Bushmaster sells AR rifles in both 5.56mm and .308. The .308s are a little pricey though at ~$1700, but they do use cheap FAL mags. Their 5.56mm rifles are less than half that price. I have one and they are nice.

DSArms makes a domestically produced FAL in .308 for ~ $1400.

Springfield Armory also sells a comparabley priced .308 M1A. Magazines can be a bit pricey, although they're coming down now that they can sell new ones.

Colt and Olympic also sell ARs, as do Rock River Arms.

Robinson Armament makes the spiffy M96 and the brand new XCR , which looks cool as well.

All of the above prices are MSRP, so they're probably a couple hundred less in the store.

Man, it's come down to "Colt ALSO sells AR15s."

I think they ALSO sell 1911s and Single Action Armys.

I've got a Colt Sporter Two 6551 Govt Model AR and a DSA STG 58, couldn't be happier with them. Would not hesitate to use either in a serious situation. I reload for both (very carefully, very very carefully) but also keep a few thousand rounds of quality milsurp put up for them. The DSA is more accurate than the AR cause I've got a 40mm X 14 power Springfield combat 1st Generation scope on it. Both are great guns. Had them out last week, fired about 100 rounds of my reloads through each at 6" paper plates at 150yds, slow steady fire, both are very accurate.

There are a gazillion manufacturers of AR15's in the U.S.

Not really. The AR10 is just about the best semi-auto 308 platform for mounting optics, mechanically and ergonomically.
