As far as being compensated for anything related to handloading and 'giving' away ammo, I really can't say your interpretation of the circumstances would sway a prosecutor, or even a jury for that matter.
Just think of the headlines "An illegal, clandestine ammunition manufacturing lab was shut down today...authorities have been investigating for months".
A career move, that almost ANY prosecutor hungry for publicity would LOVE to have.
While turning out a few rounds for a buddy might be OK in some limited circumstances, when anything of value is received as compensation (indirect or otherwise) you are still in actuality trading ammo for profit.
