Need Direction on S&W 38 Special

I just joined in Yesterday and not sure if i posted my question in the correct area as i have not seen a response so i need help as to where to go about finding out the age and any info on my Great Grandfathers S&W 38 special CTG with a 4in barrel. Thank you!

And CTG is "cartridge", a part of the caliber designation. It's not a model.
Serial number at the very least, description required, photos are best.
