Someone (maybe not even on this site) posted a copy of a letter from the ATF which basically discussed converting an ar pistol to a regular rifle by putting an AR upper on it (after replacing the stock with a regular stock), and then not being able to revert back to the ar pistol configuration without a Form 1 even with all the original parts owned by the same person. Anyone remember this or have a link to the copy? Thanks.

So why wouldn't the Thompson/Center case be precedent when it comes to issues like this?

Never mind, it is the BATFE after all.

We sure have gone a long way away from "shall not be infringed", haven't we?

ATF took the position that the TC kits were sold as that, "complete kits with the intention from the manufacturer of being both a handgun and rifle" or somesuch wording like that.

That's basically it though I'm not quoting from them, just memory.

And I also seem to recall that they have refused to allow other manufacturers to sell similar kits. Seems like some AR company hit them up about selling a combo, but I can't remember where I read that either.... my mind is going.

Probably brain damage from reading too many gun laws.
