I can't tell if they're blued but worned off or really good parkerizing job. It seems that blued firearms are always so glossy and shinny, but parkerized ones are pale grey. I guess what I'm really concerned with is what was the most common gun finish on the classic AK47 type 3 or the Chinese milled Type 56. Please enlightened me on this subject.

    Matte-black finish (essentially, flat-black paint.)

Handsome rifle, by the way. Is that you? (you're gonna get your hand smacked for having that finger on the trigger in image #3!) :neener:

I've seen parkerized AK's, but most of them I've seen have been painted. Perhaps over park.

It's cheap and it protects from rust until it wears off. Whatever they use is tough stuff.

No that is not me in the picture, just some random dude. I was looking through the internet for some AK pictures and that picture came up. Hmm, I should have black out his face or something... (Done)

So about the finish, the Chinese type 56 milled receiver were historically painted? Would just about any kind of paint would work or is their a certain paint that's better on steel? How about color wise?

The reason I asked is because I want to build a retro AK after finishing my retro AR.

    They were blued, not painted.

The AK in the range photos is permanently pointed downrange. It's a range in Vietnam where you can shoot full autos, if you buy ammo at very high prices lol. The barrels are strapped to the concrete wall, thus you can move the aim a tiny bit, but mostly they just hang there. Notice the other guns in the background, magically holding themselves up!

I've been there, some of the other grad students I was with loved it. Me, I grew up around full autos, so I didn't partake.

Why is it that whenever anyone needs to post pics of their rifles it ends up being in the kitchen with bare feet?

I'm not criticizing, I've done it too.

My kitchen has better lighting than my room, and who wears shoes in their own home?
