Need help with a safe or cabinet for home

I am looking for a gun locker / cabinet for the home. Safes are out of my price range and they are very big and bulky. I kind of want something i can store in a closet and no one will see. Also something that is ?lockable?. I have seen some filing cabinets that lock but they dont have the sapce for my rifles and pistols. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I got an 8 gun cabinet from "Stack-on" that I am very pleased with. $100 shipped.
I bolted it to the wall in my garage, but could very easily be mounted in a closet.

home depot sells a Knaack contractor tool chest that i am looking at to go in my closet it`s a small size 30 inches long so i would work for pistols only. Bolt that baby to the floor and it would do the trick. $179 at my local HD. Not fireproof though.

Harden the entire closet. Screw heavy plywood securely to the studs. Replace the door with a 1-3/4” solid core. Screw the hinges and strike plate in with 3” screws. Plus use commercial hinges that won’t slide apart if the pins are removed. This will be a strong as most low cost metal boxes and you can use the entire closet for storage of valuables. If you need something stouter that this I would suggest a bonafide safe.

Go to an Office Supply Suplus type store. Look for a locking fire proof filing cabinate that can be locked. If no success, get a small safe for your closet.

I just noticed that the cabinet version also meets Cali requirements. Darn, I could have saved a hundred bucks. Well, I wanted a combination lock anyway...

Sentry makes a 14/16 gun safe that's very appropriate to that purpose. Fits well in a moderately sized closet. I got mine from Walmart. The shipper they used brought it right inside the apartment.
