Need info on J P Sauer 6.35mm

It looks like a Sauer WTM 1924 model. J.P.Sauer and Son were located in Suhl, Germany, and began producing this pistol, the Westen-Taschen Modell, or Vest Pocket Model, in 1924. It was made for 4 years , before being replaced by, the WTM 1928. It was available only in 6.35 mm. or .25 ACP. It is a hammer-less, stiker fired pistol which featured a separate breech block within the slide. One of the problems with this gun was the fact that the hard rubber grips did not use a screw for retention; utilizing instead cut-outs in the frame to hold them in place. If they became brittle or broke, some other means of replacing, and then affixing them to the gun, would have to be found.

what you wrote, is right. But MustangHowie's pistol is in fact a Sauer model 28, not a model 24. To be more exact: it's a model 28, first variation. The first variation has an oblong safety lever knob with straight serrations, while the second variation has a round knob with concentric circles. Also, the serial number falls within the SN block of the first variation: 8,1xx to 15,xxx, serial numbers of the second variation are 250,001 to 252,9xx.

Regarding the grips: I would leave it as is. These Plexiglas grips with a photo of a (nude) woman are typical for "GI souvenir" pistols and do tell an interesting story also. BTW: the grips of the model 28 are screwed to the pistol quiet normally (you're right regarding the model 24).

I am a Sauer fan too. I collect SIGS and I have a Sauer .357 single action. I am working on my K98 mausers. I have a 1938 and a 1940 so far.
