Today I was able to buy powder for every caliber I was looking for simply because I took a list of several options with me. Handed it to the guy at Sportsmans Warehouse and asked if he had any of those. If I'd insisted in a specific powder my shopping trip wouldn't have been so successful.

Now for primers...

That's a good point twoclones, too many go shopping for the exact powder or components with no back up plan.
Most calibers can be covered by several powders with a little pre-purchase research.
Then they whine in a post on THR that they can't find their powder or other components.

I just posted this on another forum. This will make it easy to get a workable powder for what caliber you are loading. This came from the Ramshot site.

Some of my problem is not finding acceptable substitute powder, but finding load data to go with it.

Chas have you checked the powder makers website? They are pretty good about publishing load data.

Post the powder and the round here and I bet somebody can point you in the right direction.

I don't know of any powder manufacturer/distributor that doesn't have at least basic data for most popular calibers available on their websites. There's no excuse, other than no internet connection, for someone not to be able to find loads for their firearm.
A Google search will usually garner a huge amount of data for even obscure calibers.
We have a tremendous amount of information available now at the tips of our fingers, unthinkable back when I started reloading. You just need the common sense to disseminate the good from the bad.

I'm familiar with most of the sites that publish reloading data. I still stand by my statement. As far as using load data from a forum member whose name I don't even know, either this forum or others I frequent, I think I'll have to pass on that. I mean no offense, I'm just prudent.

agree with only using published data. It is way to easy to make a typo or transpose numbers and create a kaboom.

I know that I can't type fer shyte anyway.

Chas,
Are you loading an obscure caliber or using hard to find powder? Like a couple previous posters, I forgo reading my reloading manuals in favor of going to the powder manufacturers site. But, I admit I'm reloading 9mm, .45ACP, .357, and .223 - very common cartridges.

NCSmitty, IMO, is right on target. You always need a back up plan. This holds especially true with all of the folks stocking up and those getting into reloading because of the panic...

My .02,
redintex

Good point...went today to a local shop to pick up some IMR 4350 for a new 300 win mag I'm in the process of buying. Instead all they had was RL22, so my back-up powder was purchased.
