Hi guys,
I've been shooting for a long time but I don't own any firearms of my own, mostly using my uncle's or the ones at the club I go to. Mostly .22s and some pistols with the occasional semi-automatic rifle thrown in. I have done alot of research and shot several different brands and models and I am coming close to being 100% sure what i want. My uncle has always gone to Ray's Sport Shop on Rt. 22, and he has no problem with them. Whenever I go in there they treat me like I'm an idiot, frankly it's insulting. I look young, but I'm 21, have my FID, don't pretend to know more than I do, and don't do anything stupid while im there. On top of that their ammo prices are high and their firearm prices are a little high too. Please, if anyone knows a good FFL dealer in central NJ please tell me what your experiences with them have been.

I recommend.
Jim Flynn's Truck Repair
2135 State Route 31
Glen Gardner, NJ 08826
(908) 537-6446

He's a few miles north of clinton on rt 31.

FWI I would never give Rays my business. Amongst all the other problems with them they record your name and address when you by ammo:what: I told them to keep the ammo when I saw they were writing down my address not just checking my age.

They have a store motto also.
Rays sporting goods, you may find a better product but you will never pay a higher price.

couple of things that are important to me:
knowledgeable sales and smith
good stock of ammo and guns
good prices
willing to help me purchase off internet

i live near new brunswick but im willing to drive for a good place

Brick Armory in Bricktown, northern Ocean county. They are a class III dealer.
I bought a Ruger rifle at Rays this year and they put me over the edge when they charged me 7% sales tax on the $15 NICS phone call.:what::banghead:

couple of things that are important to me:
knowledgeable sales and smith
Good knowledge of guns, no smith
good stock of ammo and guns
Stocks a few guns, has used stuff sometimes, usually has cheap plinking ammo on hand
good prices
You cannot get better prices, he only charges a small fraction over cost.
willing to help me purchase off internet
Accepts incoming transfers, and only charges 20.00 I think.

There are a few good gunsmiths in NJ but most are not part of a gun store.
Go to rays and look at the guns, touch, fondel, etc. then have Jim order what you want.

thanks for the recommendation, ill definitely pay him a visit
any other suggestions are welcome and appreciated

I know what you mean about Ray's.

Places that have always been helpful to me:

New Jersey Firearms Guild, St. Georges Ave., Rahway.

Auto Parts of Woodbridge, Main St. Woodbridge.

Harry's, Robbinsville.

A counter guy at Harry's told me that the state required the name and address of every purchaser of 'hollow-points', but no other ammo. Ray's requires name and address for all rifle ammo, even rimfire, but not for purchases of shot shells.

Where in Central Jersey. There are a couple of mom and pops in southern Monmouth/ Northern Ocean. Solomons in Farmingdale is one but is only open 3 days a week for a total of 9 hours. The other is Sportsmans Shanty in Jackson. There is also Sayreville Sportsman in Sayreville. The only decent smith I know is Armament Gunsmith on 22 in Hillside. I like Sportsmans Center in Bordentown better than Harry's, the staff in Harry's reminds me of Ray's. I have had mixed dealings with Brick Armory, the stuff I bought is good, but I have gotten the run around a few times.

i live near new brunswick, but i know im going to have to drive to get anywhere decent...ill check out a couple of the places you guys suggested, thanks alot

I herd harry's will bang you for like 50 bucks on a transfer. So if thats any indication of the rest of there business. I herd good things about the guy in rahway also.

There is also Effingers in Boundbrook. As for the Firearms Guild in Rahway, when Mr Brenner sold it to Jeff years back, it went down hill. He only seemed interested to talk to you if he knew you had money and were buying at that time. He did not want to take the time to show you different guns. I have not had any dealing with them since their current name change. I do not know if Jeff is still there or still an owner. Boy do I miss Mr Brenner. I have had favorable dealings with Woodbridge Auto over the years, and there used to be a Mom and Pop in Franklin Park called Murphy's Sportsmans Den, I believe. it has been a few years.

If Northern Burlington County isn't too far for you, Harry's Army & Navy is the best gun shop I've ever been too. They have everything, six deep. Prices are good, staff is knowledgable, and they've been there forever. If you can't find it anywhere else, Harry's has it.

It's on Rt 130 N. in Bordentown, 5 minutes from Hamilton Twp.
