2400 in 44mag rocks! just need to tweek the load alittle - right now using 19.5gr. I need to kick that down a few grains. If anybody has any pet load let here them!.

Sorry...

My bear load for my 1894S and SBH is a 265gr Hornady Interlock .430" (sku #4300) over 22gr of H110 for 1650fps in the carbine, and 1300+fps in the revolver...

Not max in either, but accurate in both...

For our little CA bears...

Marlin 1894
240g XTP
W-W brass
WLP
1.61 COAL
20.5g Alliant 2400
20" ballard barrel: 1750 fps
Work up to it from 19.5g and stop at best accuracy.

1895G
Best jacketed load I've had passed on to me:

300 grain Speer UniCor hollow point #2482 seated to 2.53"
Winchester brass, 2.1" trim
CCI 200 primer
55 grains of H4198
2080 fps from the 1895G

If you like cast...

1895G
350g cast .460
WLP
R-P brass
2.525" COAL
45g Rx7
1670 fps from the 1895G

NOTE: The above 45-70 loads are Level II Lever Action type loads ONLY! Don't use them in your Trapdoors...

What weight bullet are you driving, and what bear will you be shooting? I use the 19.5 grs with 240 gr swaged lswc as my goto round for my Redhawk. I am in the process of working up a load with 300 gr wfn.

I was shooting beartooth 300gr 19.5gr of 2400 is ok but accuracy was not what I wanted, so I might try 18gr and work up. My new hunting area has black bears & wolfs and a few mt.lions maybe - my gun is a super blackhawk
