The Yugo is the heavier variant of the SKS (compared to its Russian/Chinese/Albanian/Romanian cousins), with an integral grenade launcher being the most distinctive feature that separates it from the other SKS variants. The barrel is slightly heavier than the Romanian/Chinese versions (but is also not chrome-lined like the Chinese/Romanian versions are, if that matters to you). There are lots of them running round right now, most with beech or teak stocks and in relatively good to brand-new shape.

If you want something to sporterize - get a Norinco or Romanian, as the lighter barrel without the grenade launcher makes for a less destructive conversion. If you want a military-looking rifle for plinking, complete with bayonet and grenade launcher - the Yugo version is just the ticket.

All of the varients seem to interchange parts well, EXCEPT for the gas tube - it's unique to the Yugos. There are also minor differences in stocks between the versions, both to accomodate the different bayonets and to include/not include a buttpad. The Yugos also get a slightly different sight, but the sights themselves are interchangable.
