Some of you already know, but the Department of the Interior is reviewing a VCDL sponsored petition for rule making to amend 36 CFR Regulation 2.4 - the weapons ban - which would permit otherwise law abiding folks to carry weapons on NPS property.

see this thread: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=109783&highlight=nps

I maintain a time line of events here:

http://www.bighammer.net/pages/24/index.htm

If you check out the latest entries, you'll notice that there has been some movement on the issue just after Christmas. It basically comes down to this - We need people to contact their Congressional delegation to push this through. The Virginia Congressional delegation has been very helpful getting responses from DOI. We need everyone that is willing to assist to contact their Congressional delegation - all of them and ask for assistance. Our latest push has been to get "VCDL's petition published for comment in the next Federal Register". Your Congressional delegation can help by contacting DOI on your behalf as a constituent to ... request... DOI's cooperation in this matter.

I know this might not be the highest item on everybody's list, but this issue is on the front burner, right now. You can actually make a difference on this, in a very short time frame. Here is a page I set up to help with suggestions on Congressional contact:

http://www.bighammer.net/pages/22/index.htm

Please take a few minutes to contact your Congressional delegation at your earliest convenience, and don't be deterred by voice mail, or non responsiveness. Keep trying to engage someone until you get a hold of a person who deals with Federal agency concerns, 2nd Amendment issues, etc.

Thanks!

this needs to be

bumped!...I hate that I can not go to Yellowstone and Yosemite without my sidearm, why don't they tell mountain lions and bears that they can not have teeth and claws?

Dave,

I just read through the whole history and all of the attachments (except the proprietary MS Word doc ones... can't open those :( ) and think that it's rediculous that the DOI has basically come right out and said "We're willing to wait until the 2006 elections to see if the gun lobby loses a few seats in congress". Bah. Utter BS.

I'm going to check out the suggested language on your link and write letters to Senators Santorum & Specter, and to Congressman Weldon right away.

Addendum: The sample letters on http://www.bighammer.net/pages/22/index.htm are also in the proprietary MS Word format which is really going to limit their usefulness. If you have any influence with the folks who maintain that site, I suggest strongly to convert all .doc files to html or plain text so everyone can read them.

Thanks!

You can also check the VCDL website www.vcdl.org for information on the issue. They have a section devoted to repealing the National Park ban.

VCDL was the leader in initiating the request for rule-making, if I remember right.

stay safe.

Yonder - I can put them in .pdf, I created a text only version and it was pretty ugly... My remote uploading system appears to be tango uniform, so I'll attempt to correct later tonight.

I just converted the 4 Word documents I found to .PDF format. Just need a place to upload for everyone to view. If anyone can host, let me know and I'll send them over to you.

4?

I found 3 pesky MS-Turd docs, and they should be corrected by the time you read this. The 2 "pattern" letters, and the letter from Congressman Goode.

I also rescued the RangerFOP pages from cache. Next someone will tell me they don't like the font. :banghead:

If there are more offensive format documents, let me know...:(

There could be developments on this soon...

They were:

082704Public_Safety_-_Davis.doc
122705LetterfromGoode.doc
122805call_from_Hoffman.doc
122805LettertoChrisLopez.doc

Not that it matters to me but others were asking...
